Screen won't shut off when closed...

I'm sure this has been posted/asked before or I just really missed something...

But when I close the cover on my 8886 the screen stays on... it doesn't turn off like it should...

IS there a setting that I am missing?

Thanks for all your help!

Actually, I have the same problem and I am working on it. My own lappy has the same exact windows installation and settings and the screen shuts off when the button is pressed, but the 8886 does not... and the button does work because I set it to go to standby when pressed and I pressed it and it worked :-) I will keep working on it though... You could try calling sager and asking, maybe it is something they've seen before and it's simply a matter of changing one setting, lol.

I'm 100% sure the 5660 has a pull down menu to select what you want it to do when you close the lid. You can set it to do nothing, shut down, go into standby, or shut off the screen. I was pretty sure the 8886 had all the same ones by default also.
scottrm20, see if you have that option under power if I remember right.

I see now in Power where I can change what it does when the lid is closed... however the only options I see are "Do Nothing" "Stand By" and "Hibernate" there isn't a "turn display off"....
will hibernate work just as well?

Thanks for alll your help! You guys are the best!

Yeah, there is no option for turn off the screen on this 8886 or on my own lappy, and they have the same windows installation, so I'm assuming it is windows. However, my own lappy will turn off when the screen is shut, even in DOS... so it's not windows. The button on the 8886 works, because it will standby if it is set to... I have yet to figure out how to get it to turn the screen off when the option isn't available in windows (in other words, get it to do what my own lappy does...).

As far as hibernating, that will basically store all of your current settings on the hard drive and shut off the computer... when you wake it back up, it will take you to the exact state you were in when you hibernated. I don't like it, but some people do. It's up to you whether to use it or not. :-)

Mine neither has that option, but since my vaio neither had it, i am used to time the lcd shutoff to 2 minutes, that usuall works for me.

As for standby/hibernate modes, when you use them, the kernel gets paged (as when you have had the lap with too much uptime and doing many things) which results in degraded performance, i disable the paging and thos power saving options (this thing boots in no time, so its no a problem)

Yes, I have found the same to be true... the quick boot time just leads me to shut it off whenever I'm not gonna use it for a while (which isn't often, lol, it usually means I'm at work or something). Works very well.
