Is Amd Athlon 64 3400+ (2.2 Ghz) enough for gaming at present?

How does it match to P4 (3.0 Ghz +)???

1gb ram, 128 mb MR 9700, Windows XP home.. r the common specifications..

also is there really 'much'/major difference in 5400rpm or 7200rpm hard drives....

thnx.

AMD64 3400+ is much faster than P4 3GHz. However, the bottleneck is the graphics card, so in reality you won't see much of a difference in laptop gaming.

I play most of my games at 598Mhz. I don't see any difference on those (mostly old games like NFS HP2, Diablo 2, Starcraft, COunter Strike). The video card is the difference, like Sanna said. 3400+ is moooooore than enough.

Certainly agree,
AMD64 3000+ is probably fast enough to run 99 percent of the games out there on the highest setting. In gaming, A64 3400 is probably significantly faster than the Pentium4 550, and certainly faster than P4 3.0 GHz, it's not even close. But like Sanna said, it won't really make much difference in the real world, because all of these CPUs are more than adequate in handling the vast majority of the games.

It really is the graphic cards that are the current bottle neck

so is MR9700 good enough to handle current games. i really dont want to wait for MRX800 to come and also it is too costly for me. so wut do u think abt MR9700 128mb...
Yes, it will run everything, but you probably have to stick to 1024x768 with the newest games.

i thought if u run games on lower resolution like 800X600, games work better....
They do, 1024x768 *is* a "lower resolution" too

For gaming the Athlon 64 is just what you want!

Dude, which company is charging that much, I hope they have the reputation of IBM.

Sager has similar notebooks for hundreds less.

i speak from experience when i say that AMD64 3400+ (i use 3200+) is as much CPU juice as you will need for quite a while. Make sure to load up on ram (gb recommended, 512mb is a little too little for some games). 7k60 vs 5400rpm will make a differance in loading times, not FPS. ATI 9700 128mb is alright for now and the near future.

what lappy are you looking at anyway?

i showed the configuration few messages up...

well i live in new zealand and there are not much options for buying cheap notebooks. the only company which is good enough i think here is Dell because they have their own setup here and i can configure my own laptop on the site.

but i hate it bcoz they dont have amd notebooks and even with the inspiron 9100 here which the best desktop replacement here (xps is not present here), the similar configuration will cost me almost same as wut i am getting the above configuration, maybe more.

with nz 4000$ ill only get from Dell:
9100 P4 3.2Ghz HT wsxga+
xp home, 1gb ram, 128mb mr 9700, 80gb u-ata hdd, bluetooth module...

this is what i am thinkin of going for:

Good luck then.

Maybe if you have a relative in the US, they can buy it for you, and then ship it to you for cheap.
