Also:

I just got some rather sad news from my dad...apparently, It's gonna be rather difficult to come by one of those blasted 20% off coupons, because they really don't have those kinds for lappys. He told me the most he could probably get would have to be about 10% .

That is too bad. I get 10% doscount at work and it basically let's me get an extanded warranty for free.

I think the Ferrari 3200 is a very nice laptop, which falls under the $2000 range. It will suit all the needs you have mentioned, and looks good to boot.

What kind of gaming you expect to do on your laptop i.e. FPS, RTS, emu etc.?

Re:

Gaming...hmmm...I'm thinking, any/all types of games? Generally though, I like to play first person shooters like: Halo, Call of Duty, Far Cry, Doom3, etc, etc...

Would the Ferrari 3200 be able to play such games well, and with ease?
THANKS!
Yes, but it probably won't be able to play games like doom 3 or half-life 2 in ultra-high quality. Theres a good chance the mobility radeon 9800 in the XPS can though.

The mobility radeon 9700 compares to the desktop radeon 9600.

Have you looked at this thread? : http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=52887
Your dad can probably get you the discount from the EPP site if he works there.

Wow!

Thanks so much for the link to that thread overnight! I dunno if my dad my dad qualifies or whatever, but I'll just have to wait and see. Does anyone know how much I would then save (with that program), on a $3300 DELL Inspiron XPS?
THANKS!

So Now!...

If I were able to add up all the savings from that EPP program, would it still not be worth purchasing the Inspiron XPS notebook? That is, if I even get those discounts; I've heard that the 20% off Inspiron notebooks, coupons, are getting very scarce...
If you can pull off those discounts I would say, yes. Getting that laptop for around $2000 fully loaded is a great deal.

The XPS is a huge laptop, so I don't think you will want to lug it around all the time. This would easily handle the newest games for the coming months.

I still don't seem to understand why you want a laptop for gaming.

The **ONLY** reason to buy a laptop for gaming is:
You spend most of your free time away from home, and you want to be able to bring a gaming machine with you whereever you go.

You're not going to be playing games in class. You don't travel for work. If you are only going to be playing games at home or in your dorm room, then why are you wasting an extra $1000 for gaming mobility that will never have any practical use?
Correction: you don't have to travel _most of the time_, just _sometimes_ for it to be handy.

why hasn't anyone suggested the sager 3790? Its got the mobiliy plus great graphics.

Re:

Precisely; just as Saiyr put it. I want a greater machine. I just want it for my own pleasure, and plus I wouldn't mind lugging it around anyways (I mean, I'm no wimp or anything, I don't mind carrying around an extra 10 lbs or so; I aleady weight train as is). Also, I just want it to be able to handle other applications at blazing fast speed; whilst being able to play games incredible (by that I mean, without lagging or anything like that; extremely awesome graphics, acceleration, etc etc etc...you should be able to get the jist of what I'm trying to say)...

Oh yeah, and also...

What kind of Limited Warranty, Services and Support, and CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service would you guys recommend?

I currently have it configured to:

1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr Technical Support
and
NO CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service

Yeah, well...umm...

It doesn't make that big of a deal sadly... . With all the discounts the orginally customized lappy: ~$3600, ended up being around ~$2800 (that's including EVERYTHING)...
...not even close to $2000... .
___________________________________________________________________
I guess I may have no other choice but to along with getting an ACER FERRARI 3200... . I mean, I guess that the best "cheap" laptop I can come up with (or rather, the only "cheap" laptop I've been spending the most time researching on). But I'm still feeling a bit of contradiction from some of you guys' responses...like how some people said that I should spend ~$2000 on a laptop now and wait a few years (like 2, if I remember correctly) to get another one (again spending ~$2000 or so). I mean how is that any/much better than my current solution/road? Pardon me, but wouldn't a shittier laptop last even less longer than a pretty optimized, XPS? Explained your reasoning, please, people. My brain is aching seriously right now... .
Technology-wise, I don't think the XPS/suggested laptops are too far apart...the time at which they'll go obsolete is about the same. Actually, I don't really know what I'm talking about, since the only thing I know about the XPS is that it's big.

You want a laptop that can do great games and still be portable. My advice to you is still the same, though you may not like the idea...get a portable laptop and a gaming desktop. Both of my systems are actually suited to gaming right now...the CL56 will be able to run HL2 pretty well, but altogether I spent $3,500 (actually I spent nothing, I'm a spoiled Asian kid) on a full system (monitor, printer, all of that included). PCs have much more modularity and will probably have a longer lifetime than a notebook.

seriously, if u want that much gaming and don't want to spend that much buck, there's no point in even taking the time to look at the XPS. i guarantee you'll be fine with a laptop that's sub ~2000, and will be more pleased with the power to weight to battery life to heat to everything else except for Ghz ratio. in less than 2 years no one will remember what a Pentium 4 EE was. your radeon 9800 or x800 or whatever is making headlines now will be a footnote. and u'll be clamoring again on these forums trying to decide what to spend ur hard earned buck on. save every1 a lot of headache, save yourself some money, and get something these fine folks have suggested. but if u just can't, then head over to the Dell threads, and let them talk u into buying an XPS somemore, because 4 pages of dissenting opinions can't seem to talk u out of it. Hopefully by the time u do, everything we just talked about won't be obsolete.

Re:

Yeah...I'm thinking about the Acer Ferrari 3200 again as an all-around alternative laptop. The thing is: Do you guys think I'm better of buying it at ~$1,939.00 from NEWEGG.COM, or should I look for something else? I mean, the only real problems/flaws I find in it are the 80 GB hard drive (I'll probably want a 60GB 7200rpm drive), and the 512 MB memory (again, I'll probably want to upgrade it to 1 GB). If I make those changes, how much in total, do you guys think I'd have spent? Basically, I guess I'd be okay with a laptop for college with those specs (the Acer Ferrari 3200, with the changed harddrive and RAM). And also, how long do you think this thing'll last me? Not too long huh ?
I'll take a wild guess and say ~2,200-2,300. It'll last you all through college, but I'm not too sure about the gaming life of the notebook.
Go to PCTorque.com and take a look at the 9860 and the 8790. Both laptops have great specs and would be great for gaming and other stuff. I just ordered myself a 9860. With an 80Gb Hard Drive, 1Gb RAM, 2 Optical Drives (including DVD+-RW), TV Tuner, Wireless, etc...I spent $2600.00.

You probably wouldn't get dual optical drives and would go with the 60Gb Hard Drive. That alone would probably drop the price a couple hundred.
