DELL Digital Jukebox - Page 2

Re:

Well, thanks guys for actually responding to my thread; my bad for making a bad initial thread name. While we are all talking about the DELL mp3 player (to be specific the DELL DJ 20), I wanted to know about all the kinds of discounts people know of. I wanted to get one for cheap, but I could only find this $300 or so coupon. Isn't there some sort of percentage coupon (ie 20% off or something)? Also, I wanted to know if you guys could reccommend any conversion thing for my car (which would be used to make the DJ work in my car)? I don't want the cassette conversion thing, because I use two cars interchangably, and one of them does not have a cassette player. Also, can you guys note any problems you may have had with: either the DJ itself, or the DJ to car conversion thingies?
THANKS!

Anyone?

For teh 20% cupon, I'd reccomend looking around the forums or doing a search, as there are already many cupon threads (and one big one stickied)

For car play, I'd go for the Belkin Tunecast II FM transmiter.. $20 off ebay. You can broadcast on 88.1MHz-107.9MHz, so you needn't worry about interference from radio stations. Comes with a car adapter too.

The only coupons I'm aware of are:

$25 off DJ20:
$NSZHJX?V57NDH
$M3?SJTJQB19BL
$4D$DT0PPCCZL1
$4C$CPJFH5N1D5

Buy a Pocket DJ and get the Action Jacket with Armband for $10 Code: $NFF3WBZ56001L
$X1D962C7G8LW7
1LKTJBB8DDWFC7
$Q6F157$7DQ626

These are one-time use coupons, and might have been used already. I think I have a few more around here somewhere...

On a side note (I might have said this already), I love the iRiver iHP-120 (discontinued, and now renamed to H120 since HP is suing iRiver over the "iHP" logo) that I got from Best Buy a month or so ago for $170 out the door. I picked up a display model for my son last week (he wanted one for Xmas after using mine all the time when he comes over ) for $206 out the door. MUCH more features, and better looking IMHO.

I guess I should have been a little more clear. Is the Dell Jukebox compatible with Napster To Go, which is a montly subscriptions service allowing you to download music with out buying individual songs.

Also can the jukebox act as a USB host to store photos from your digital camera on the road?

I have a 15GB Dell DJ and overall, I am very happy with it. I have tried an iPod and was not impressed.

The DJ has very good sound quality, is still relatively small, and has a much better battery life than a comparable iPod. I will say this though, Musicmatch SUCKS. It is the worst management software ever. Also, some updates to the DJ firmware that many of us expected never happened (.ogg support etc.)

For the price though, I am very happy with my purchase.

See, that's another reason why I prefer my iRiver iHP-120 (aka H120) - .OGG support out of the box. ;-)

But, I dunno...the iRiver seems kinda...complicated? Don't get me wrong, I like technology and all its advanceness (is that even a word), but I just don't want the mp3 player to be too complicated; I don't want one of those 128MB or so mp3 players either though.

Torgo, why weren't you impressed with the iPod? I just love that dial thingy so much (yes yes, I know, that'd be a very stupid reason to buy it for). I just wish that the ipod (the $300 one) could store as much as the DELL DJ 20 (9,900 songs instead of the ~5,000 or songs offered by the $300 iPod). Those are one of the main issues; I would like an mp3 player that plays the most songs, for the same price as the competition, and it shouldn't be too big either. Another main issue is the battery life also. Why exactly did the DELL Jukebox's battery life go down? Was it because it can now store more songs? Also, how can a friggin' 20GB (belonging to the DELL DJ 20) store 9,900 songs, while the 20GB harddrive belonging to the iPod cannot? I mean, it takes iPod 40GB to store that much music?!?!

I mean, do you guys also think that it would be plausible to hand down an extra $100 dollars for that extra 20Gigs, just so that I could hold up to 10,000 songs on the iPod? Yes, yes, I also do know that I'll probably never even hear 10,000 songs in my whole life, but still; I want those most bang for my buck. The other major bad thing I find with the ipod is, that it cannot read wma files. I mean, it's not like I listen to too many of those audio types (at least I don't think so), but still, I wish it could play those types of audio files. I guess it's just more oriented towards APPLE computer users, huh?

Also, if I were to get an iPod, is it really any easier to hook up to my car (remember that I don't want to use that cassette conversion thing)?

10,000 songs is a lot. I've been downloading songs since napster and I only have about 2000 songs...and I hardly listen to a lot of them. And if you do have 10k songs, are you listen to all of them? Would you need all of them with you at all times? If that's what you need, then go for it, just think about what you actually need in a music player, not just about getting the most gigs you can. The only exception is if youre going to use it as a spare harddrive too.
20gigs equals 20gigs everywhere. Those #s of songs are just estimates, as the size of each song differs depending on the quality and length. A rough estimate would be 1 minute=1mb, and 3 mins per song gives you 3mb per song.

I have a few wma files, but most are mp3s.
