http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=44237

so is there anything that i need to watch out for or prep my 8600 for gettings is motherboard taken out... there was a thread a couple days ago about some technicians not putting compound and the temps being several degrees hotter... anything else i need to do/check?

thanks!

I saw this thread earlier but wasn't sure what to add... best of luck. If you are still under warranty, it might be worth it to have Dell do it for you, just in case something happens that shouldn't have.

I had a mainboard replaced in my 5150 by Dell, twice. Damned notebook was less than 6 months old both times they replaced it, and the symptoms were just like yours exactly. Finally I persuaded them to buy it back and I got a different model but to answer the question when I got it back the first time it looked and performed well (for about 3 months) until the same symptoms rose up again.
