starting this morning ive noticed my screen does not turn off when lid is closed. Shouldnt it turn off from the small switch being compressed? or is this a software issue. Dont want to wear my display out and burn up my batteries when on

Thank You

If you want it (the computer) to turn off, you'll have to go to Control Panel -> Power management. If you want the LCD to turn off but let the computer run, there's nothing wrong with that but the heat from the HD and GPU may cause problems on the LCD later on. (There's a thread on that.)

Help, Dell 630m - same problem. (Be it linux Ubuntu 6.10 or Windows)My lcd screen doesn't turn off anymore. I have to place a book on the lid for the added weight in order for the automatic turn off. Furthermore I can't use an external monitor with lid closed any more because it then allways changes from internal to external and back. Meaning my external monitor is reinitalising every 20 seconds or so.

Is there any answer to this problem for a 630m?

Any hints on what to do?

Oh I'm still under warranty

Oh I found the problem. It's solved now. I had to take out the two rubber pieces at the lid. Now the lid closes without problems and the problem is gone.

Do you have an Nvidia card in your laptop, aggets?

EDIT: Never mind. Saw this is an extremely old dug up post. Why do people do that?
