i didn't get a drivers cd with my 700m, all i got was windows kp home sp2, wordperfect, cyberlink powerDVD, sonic recordnow, and encarta 2004 cds with it

well if you didn't get a drivers cd, you should have downloaded all the drivers then burned them on a cd to load on the computer. I guess whoever loads up the laptops in the boxes don't put all the stuff in it. My 700m came with the drivers cd, but my new desktop didn't. So how to download the drivers, which is kinda a pain but oh well.

Man, that sucks. You have no drivers CD and because you have not installed the modem/ network drivers you cannot connect the lappy to the internet to download the appropriate ones from Dell. You have two options:

1. Get to another PC that is connected, and download all the appropriate drivers from Dells support site. You will then have to burn them to CD or a removeable USB drive, etc to transfer them to the lappy. Instructions for how to download them from dell and a shortlist of what you will need follows:

iii. Now select Downloads located on the right of your 'homepage';
iv. Now you will now find two boxes. You can either enter your service tag, or select your system from the drop box below that.
v. Now select "All" from the first drop box, your OS from the second and OS language from the last. Press Go.
vi. Now you may select from the clearly labelled options for each appropriate driver.
vii. Download and install or burn any ones that you are missing from the included drivers and utilities CD, or that are newer than the ones on the CD.

Also, to keep abreast (hehe) of the latest Dell Driver, Bios and Software Updates then check out DELL-Machina's fabulous thread periodically for these latest updates which include links! Thanks Machina

Just a quick list of drivers that you will need:
-> Chipset (either from Dell or Intel.com)
-> Modem
-> Network
-> Wireless (if applicable)
-> Audio
-> Touchpad
-> Video (I prefer Omega, discussed later on)
-> Dell system software (not essential but has the latest bug/ stability fixes...)
2. Call up Dell and get them to send you out a drivers CD.

Good Luck,
Stu
