Problem Burning CD-R with NEC 6500a

According to the spec, the 6500a should burn DVDs at 8x, CD-RWs at 16x and CD-Rs at 24x. I am using Nero Start Smart to burn data files to a 52X CD-R and it is setting the burn speed to 8x and doesn't let me change it. Nero InfoTool shows 8x as the only burn speed available. Does anyone know if this is a drive issue, a media issue or a Nero issue?

are you sure youhave the file set to burn a CD and NOT a dvd. bc if its set to a dvd it shows it will only burn @ the max speed of 8x....that may be what is going on bc i've done that b4 haha its all good. If that's not it, it could also be a compatibility issued with SP2 and you will have to do the nero update for that

I selected the "Make Data CD" option. I've been trying to download the latest Nero update all morning, but haven't been successful yet.

Update Nero to support your drive....

yeh, what he said. also, just to make sure your ducks r in a row, check out the DMA settings in your IDE properties in the device manager. make sure it's set to DMA-33 and not to some PIO setting or what not. sometimes a new optical can throw these settings off.

keep us posted =)
