don't expect the service tag to show up online until 3 weeks or more from the original invoice date.

well at least he's sold alot of stuff and has a good rating..although i don't like the fact that he lists the item being in LA but it is actually in oregon. at least if you paid through paypal, he's got a $1000 buyer protection, so that's good. sounds like seller is square up.

did you get 512MB on top of the 2dimm 512 from the auction? the additional 8 cell on top of the 4cell?

well, dhl shows it is still in transit, since it went ground. i wouldn't worry about it unless it doesn't show up by thursday.
Thanks for the info. And yes, I got an extra 512 (one dimm) on top of the 512 in the auction, and an 8 cell on top of the 4.

Thats one thing I can't figure out about that auction. Is the origional 512 1 dimm or 2? It says both in the auction.....oh well, I'll figure it out. If the damn thing ever comes in.....!

So packages are scanned once by DHL, then DHL picks them up from Fed Ex (or whoever. Well, likely Fed Ex) and scans them again. There is no hub scanning because Fed Ex just puts 'em on the plane and away they go!

Don't fret. Your package is on the DHL docks. It's not misplaced(well, it is). Take heart my good man, and look forward to your new purchase!
DHL has it's hubs in Cincinatti OH and Wilmington OH. DHL has almost 200 Airplanes that fly the freight and many other small feeder airplanes that feed into the network from smaller cities.

FedEx flies almost all the Express and Priority mail for the USPS.

Most of those 3rd party vendors(trucks) are just contracted deliverey companies. DHL does the same thing.

No FedEx does not fly packages for DHL. They are competitors.

Your packages with DHL are scanned at the sort center before being loaded on the airplanes and then in the HUBS and then at the destination city when it arrives. If DHL lost it they should reinburse you or your shipper.

a few things:

first, get rid of those intel and windows stickers on the 700m (why provide kagillionaire gates with free advertisement)

second, if you are in college, where is the beer bong, nudy pictures, and why is your desk and room so freakishly, analy clean and organized

third, how did the added memory configuration turn out, and the battery (it looks like you have only the 4cell on in the pictures), since he said shipped factory sealed, did he ship the memory and 8cell seprately?

I put the new ram in the underkeyboard slot and it was being real slow and glitchy. I put it in the user-accessable slot and it works fine. I need to sell the 2x256 it came with and buy one more 512 stick.

The 8 cell is huge, but works well. I have them both charged and I just chill with the 4 cell on, i'll use the 8 cell more when i'm on housecalls/class/travel when the 4 cell is spent.

8 cell and ram came from different sources than the laptop. But, they've been here waiting for about 4 days for the notebook to arrive.

Thanks for the compliment on my clean room! lol I have a small one bedroom, and if I don't keep things clean, I just feel real dirty and coopped up. Here are a few pics of my apt. I just moved in a few months ago, painted, and got everything the way I want. I'm proud of my work! Might as well show it off! *don't flame because of the colors* I enjoy lots of color

Thank you John for updating that information. I errantly used DHL as an example of crossover shipping. However, there are many "competitors" of Fed Ex who do not have their own air fleet, but are provided shipping through Fed Ex similar to Pilot Air Freight (one of my former vendors), And while Pilot claims to be Air Freight, they are not "contracted" as a third party Fed Ex delivery unit. They are they're own company receiving unbelievable discounts by Fed Ex to get packages onto those planes so Fed Ex can fill each flight, and maintain premier control of the air space these other companies cannot provide their customers. A better example of contract shipping would be Fed Ex Ground, which is actually a franchise unit with individual owners, formerly called RTS, I believe.
Thanks for clearing up DHL, and apologies for lousy information

Congrats on the 'puter, Vector

No problem. I have been working in the air frieght industry since 1991. So I know a little bit about it.

I think the companies you are referring to are called Frieght Forwarders.

Fed Ex also owns Fed Ex Freight which was formerly American Frieght ways.

Good info. My former Fed Ex rep gave me a 45 minute lesson on Fed Ex operations, and I found it all very interesting. I know this is way off topic, but since Vector has his computer, he probably won't drop a line on this thread for a week! Clearly important to know even just a smidge of this, especially for this forum community, who spend thousands of dollars on these units, and want to feel comfortable receiving their packages in a timely and confident manner. Definitely appreciate your knowledge! Thanks, John!

Oh, and congrats to Vector, once again!

agreed. I'm reading! Even with the thread hijack....lol
post #36 of 40
Didn't mean to hijack the thread.
Yeah, same here!
i guess for me, it doesn't matter who the heck delivers it if it is coming from the company so long as i get it or the company sends me a new one if it gets hijacked like this thread, considering you don't have a choice of which shipper.

on the other hand, if you are buying from someone say on the bay, and you have a choice, i guess this may be of some import. although i haven't heard one bit of DHL relationship with Airborne Express. I think if you have a choice of carriers, you pick one that insures the darn thing and actually reimburses if you get the insurance and they f'en up the thing.
