Congrats, it's a fine machine.
Can't complain at all about the delivery. If I've ever said anything bad about UPS (don't think I have, tho'), I apologize profusely!
No dead pixels that my poor old eyes could see. 'Course I'm struck deaf, dumb and blind by the 'pooter right now.
Okay, this is going excruciatingly slow, because I'm currently downloading omega drivers and I have dial-up.
However, Friday, my dsl stuff is coming in. Almost waited until then to install any internet software, but couldn't wait to try this puppy out.
Got Speedswitch XP and mobile meter installed and running. I did one full battery charge and let it get to 10% while installing stuff and am currently plugged in while I download.
Ah, got some pictures. I don't know how y'all did it, taking pictures as you were opening the box. I tore into the box so fast, stuff was flying everywhere.
'Course, I was in a hurry for an appointment. Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket.
Still have to download and install Mozilla and Openoffice. That'll take awhile. Maybe that could wait until Friday? Yeah, prolly so. I wanna play now.
Okay, my first impressions are:
Gorgeous! Definitely sleek and lovely as we all already know. This is my first laptop, so I have nothing to compare it to. But it does seem quite fast with all the stuff I'm doing right now, such as downloads and installs. I've got about three browser windows open right now and it's doing great.
I love the keyboard. My wireless for my desktop has seen it's better days and really needs to be replaced. Didn't realize how much until I got on this one. Very subdued click. Shouldn't keep my husband up when I'm typing in the same room. My desktop is LOUD in comparison.
It is slightly warm on the top where my hands hover, but not uncomfortably so. The bottom actually did get pretty warm during installs. Mobile meter has the temperature at 72.0 celcius and hdd at 42. Guess it's okay. Don't know what normal is.
Also, I found this odd. Somewhere I was checking on the system and it said it was a Banias processor. I thought it was supposed to be Dothan? That's what was on the website. Does it make a difference? Has anyone else gotten this or would mind checking if you haven't noticed it before?
Okay, that's a first impression. Since all this is pretty new to me, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to add later, but I'll definitely add to it after a bit more use.
Oh, and I think the speakers sound fine. I haven't tried music on it yet. I love music, but am not an "audiophile" by any means. The regular system noises don't sound tinny, but I'll let you know after I rock the house a bit. 'Course it'll take forever to load my music on!
So far, so good. Would love to hear about the Banias/Dothan thing from any owners.
edit - oh, yeah! Came with a nice little bag. I got the mouse with it, but I'll prolly get a wireless soon. Also got the usb light which will come in handy as I'm usually in a dark room. Someone is always trying to sleep around here, except me!
And I think I'm going to sell my Crumpler bag. pm if interested. Got a pretty good price on it and am not looking to make a profit. It just doesn't quite suit my style. And it really is BIG! It's the Team Player. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll tell you my thoughts on the bag. Which is REALLY well made, btw.
I ended up with a Swiss Gear backpack from Best Buy. Go figure!
