700M or 9200?

I know that sounds like a weird choice, but let me explain.

My mother is pretty crook and is coming home from Hospital soon. She has a desktop and does a lot of net surfing, ebaying and emailing, but spends a lot of time in bed. Hence the need for a laptop.

I am thinking the 700M may be the way to go, but not sure if she'll like the smallish screen.

I think she'd like the 9200 XGA screen better, but will it be too heavy to use in bed?

I don't want to get an 8600. Too ugly!

Any thoughts appreciated.

*** EDIT - I should have mentioned I am in Australia ***

Its interesting because the 9200 is actually not as heavy as a normal 17 inch screen is. You could always go for a 600m, a 14.1 inch screen that is just under 5 lbs.

I personally think 600m is a good all-around laptop. It is light and very comparable to the 700m in weight and size. The 700m is actually not that much smaller than the 600m but 2.1 inches smaller screen size. 600m has good performance and especially since she won't be playing computer games she won't be needing a high end chip.

I should have mentioned I am in Australia. We don't have the 600M here - too ugly anyway!!!

I would get a paper and cut it in the dimensions of the 700m screen. Ask her if she thinks the screen size would be to small. Just having a visual aid like that in front of you can make the decision much easier. But if it's not to small, definately a good choice.

^ That's a great suggestion. Generally speaking, people prefer the widescreen format... so either the 700m or 9200 should suffice. If her vision is fading a little bit, I might personally go with a 9200, keep the components spec'ed moderately, and bump up the sizes on text and icons.

I currently own the I9200 with the WXGA+ screen and I would highly reccommend it. The best way to explain the weight, get something like a five pound weight and give it to her. If she can handle the weight of that then she could handle the I9200. With the WXGA+, the font size is reasonable, but if you up it from 96dpi to 110dpi, it makes the fonts extremely large! She would have no problem reading them. I personally enjoy this laptop; my father has a sony about the same size as the 700m and the fonts on that are a little smaller then the I9200. If you want mobility, then go the 700m route, but if you want size and clarity, go I9200
