If this is what you are talking about (not that I have any idea):
i replaced the default "tape" that attached the heatsink and the processor with thermal compound and my fans run less, no overheating problems when running games at a ridiculous resoltuion etc. Overall a good idea, just don't make a mistake.

Artic Silver is one of the best thermal conductors used to transfer heat from the cpu die to the heatsink. The silver in it is an excelent thermal conductor.

Most prefab computers have a cheap wax pad that is almost as bad a no thermal compund.

I beleive the 9860s are supposed to have AS5 on their CPU's. Don't know about the GPU's.
