Oh, and not everyone can just go across the border and sneak it in like that, not so easy. Besides if you wan't to use DELL DFS you have to buy from DELL Canada.
No problems as the laptop was bought with the person's credit card, and so crossing the border with a laptop they paid themselves isn't really anything to sneeze at. Not really any sneaking involved here.

If you were to choose between paying $2,100CAD and do what I did, or do it the "honest" way and buy from Dell Canada and pay $3,350CAD tax included + additional shipping, which would you choose? It can be hard decision to make.

Can't be that much of a savings, can it? No, I don't believe that. And if so, you are talking different configs, I guess. No haggling with sales rep vs coupons, etc.......

Here's how I came with those figures:
I configured the 9200 on Dell Canada with the same configuration, and came up with $2,900. I then added 15% tax for $3,335CAD (no coupons or rebates).

From Dell USA I purchased the 9200 for $1,700USD including a 25% discount coupon not available for Dell Canada and shipping. According to Royal bank of Canada, $1,700USD is $2,093CAD. Without any coupons or rebates it came up to $2,166USD = $2,667CAD.

there's nothing wrong with what you are doing...i think a certain poster just wants to argue, because he didn't think of it himself.

yah you can save a bunch by doing that... just the taxes in Quebec on a 3k cad laptops are 450$ cad plus shipping plus customs... so it's 600-700$ cad and is a lot of money that goes right out of the windows for buying the exact same laptop from Canada... Add the 25% coupon and it's over 1k discount!!

Personally it's not a hard decision to make... road trip time ^^;

back on topic... it's weird that they ship it from the States... anyways, if you paid your taxes while buying from dell.ca you shouldn't have much to worry

I'm not really into arguing, just a friendly debate here.

In your other post you said 2100CAD VS 3300CAD, now you say 2700CAD vs 3300CAD. I'll have you know that you can get online coupon rebates of $150, etc in Canada which would bring it down by about $180 (taxes removed after rebate) and then you can also dicker a bit more with the right salesman. I always ask for a free upgrade to 1gb on the memory, free upgrade on the warranty to 3years complete care, and free shipping. This will not work with every salesman, but if you tell them what you want up front, they will say yes or no. If no, then call back and talk to the next one, most likely you will get your way. In the end the difference will be minimal.

^^^"always" look at your idsig and where is the 1GB ram? i think you are overinflating your prowess. with that said, i think it never hurts to ask and get a "no", because you could get a "yes" and wouldn't that be lovely.

LOL, you're right.

I had other things going on this time though. I got the $150 rebate, the free upgrade to 3 years, free upgrade to 60gb 7200rpm drive, free upgrade to DVDRW +/- drive, and they removed the free upgrade to Office 2003 for me and then took off $100 for that, plus free shipping. I had to pick and chose the battles here. This is the way it came out for me. I ended up getting my 8600 as in my sig for $2300CAD. The memory was not an issue here because I new the price was cheap at crucial.

I'm going to throw my hat into the ring. I purchased a 9200 as well but from the Canadian site for $2400 CAD. In the end you got a better price but I would argue not by much. So for a bit more I didn't have to break the law, I didn't have to travel to the States, and I didn't have to arrange a pick up. As well lets not forget about the warm feeling I got from knowing I was putting money into the coffers of Canadian politicians. So if you have the resources, time, shoddy morals (how dare you evade taxes ) and patience to buy and pick up your dell in the States all the power to you, if not haggle a good price from the Canadian branch and be thankful that at least your not American .

Edit: A point of clarification 2400 b/f taxes. Sorry about the confusion.

Wait wait.. you purchased the i9200 in your sig for $2400 CAD? How'd you manage that? Share!

Crazyea: $2100 to $3300. The $2700 is without the rebate. I'd rather compare $2100 to $3300 because the rebates are not available in Canada.

You cannot compare a marked down laptop to one that is not..... If you try hard enough you can get a great deal here as well, but good on you for finding something that makes you happy, enough said on my part, I'm out.

Firstly its 2400 b/f taxes. Secondly I got it by asking the Dell rep to combine a few offers together without increasing the price and then asked if he could take 150 off the price (he agreed to all my requests). After I got off the phone I went to the dell site and using only the "9200 online deal of the week" configured the exact same comp I just purchased. It came to something like $3000 b/f taxes so I was pretty happy, not excited b/c like Demo said you can get even better deals in the States.
