I bought it!

Just wanted to tell you all that I bought the Satellite A70 yesterday from Future Shop. The guy that worked there was reallly helpful...couldn't ask for better service.

I ended up getting the laptop (A70 KL1 model), and the extended 3 year warranty from Future Shop (which I hadn't intended to buy until I found out that I wouldn't be able to purchase extra warranty at a later date). After buying a no interest/no payment plan for $60 and a printer for $65 (which will be free after a rebate from HP) I'm out $2200. Even though the extra warranty hiked up the price about $400 I think it'll be worth it...and will at least give me peace of mind knowing I can accidently drop this thing on the floor and it'll be replaced.

I have only used it about 2 hours in total so far, but the things I've noticed so far are:
-Loud fan on startup/somewhat noisy hard drive (although I've read in the manual you can get it to shut off after a certain amount of time)
-Easy to use keyboard (Before using this laptop I MIGHT have typed 10 words on a laptop, and already I'm finding the keyboard easy to use).
-When the screen is angled back the display is nice and bright
-Speakers are not as bad as I expected. Good enough if you're not using them to blast music.
-Somewhat warm on the bottom. However I used it on my lap for about a 1/2 an hour and it was tolerable.

So that's an update for you (sorry so long). I have a month to try this thing out, and if I decide to keep it, I'll make sure I write a review

Nice!

You've had it for two days now. How are you finding it?

I'm sure you will not be disappointed by your choice.

There is a $100 off the $300 system guard and extended warranty for 3 years at toshibadirect.com, you have only 30 days to purchase systemguard but you can extend the warranty at any time before your standard warranty expires usually 1year

Thanks for the info. I was told I *could* extend my warranty afterwards but it costs more for Toshiba's 3 year warranty. So, you're saying they have an offer on now where their 3 year warranty is only $200?

To univercity: It's going pretty well. I plan to play around with it today, and transfer the info from my desktop to it. (Which I'm actually doing now). I'll keep you updated!

that's great to hear, I have a toshiba a70-ts1 and I've been happy with it, runs halflife 2 just great. I just have to add another 512mb stick and a 5400rpm drive now and it'll be great

I'm planning on doing the same tomorrow. Same place, same (almost) machine. But I've been reading about some sort of motherboard conflict. How's yours holding up?

Good day;
I too purchased an A70 about a month ago and was starting to get intermittent sound problems (apparently common to A70s and A75s). For more info and some excellent reading go to the Peer to Peer section. By the way, there is a fix for it (under "no sound after wake-up)
