I've been looking around for the decathelete/all-around laptop... It has to be something light (no more than 6.5 pounds), fast (Moble A64 or Pentium M 1.7+), decent battery life (in the 3 hour= range), good multimedia/gaming support (ATI Mobile 9700 or better), reliable and durable. I know this is asking a lot. I'm looking to spend no more than $2300... so I don't think I'm being too unreasonble. hehe.
The leading contender (so far) have the Ferrari Brothers: Acer Ferrari 3200 and Acer Ferrari 3400. The big thing bugging me is the battery life. I live in Hawaii, so traveling by plane is a 5+ hour experience for me, so their 2.5-3 hour battery life is kinda rough. I supposed I could just bring a second battery... but that ups the weight a bit more than I already want to go.
The TravelMate 8006 by Acer looks good as well. But I haven't really gotten any good reviews as far as battery life goes. It appears to be the Centrino version of the Ferrari brothers... minus the red paint. This could be the answer I've been looking for. The lack of red paint does not bother me, but I'm just curious to the performance, as well as batter life of this bad boy.
I've also come across the WinBook W362. Apparently they upgraded the original and it now sports an ATI Mobile 9700 w/ 128megs of ram and 2.0 Pentium M. The WinBooks were not known for their speed--but thanks to those two generous upgrade, it might finally be able to hang with the big boys. If anyone can attest to the performance and battery life of this guy, it too could be the laptop I've been searching for.
In any case, I would like to thank you in advance for any information / review / feedback you could provide.
Aloha, Bakxs
