AVerTV USB

I have a AVerTV USB that I use with my Sager NP5670, yet I have one major problem with it. If I try to record something, it saves it in VERY large files! I tried to record just one hour and it took over 9GB! This is all on compressed. Since I only got the 40GB harddrive and I have a dual boot (30GB for Windows and 10GB for Mandrake) I am very limited on space. I emailed AVer to see if there was a way to save smaller files, and they just told me it saves .avi files and there is no way to change that. Anyone know any better software that would help me and would work the with AVerTV USB?

well..

for the adaptec dvd media center, its about 400x megs for like ten minutes i think...i could be wrong, havent played with it much yet, but yeah, the eat up ALOT of storage space.
