week-old, fully loaded 15" Apple Powerbook (plus office 2004) FS/FT

Hi all,

About a week ago I ordered a custom built Apple Powerbook. The specs are as follows:

15.2" Widescreen 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook
128mb Radeon 9700
1024mb RAM
80gig 5400rpm hard drive
Combo cdrw-dvd drive
backlit keyboard

Also included is a copy of Microsoft Office 2004 Mac edition (It is legally owned, not copied). The only reason I'm selling all of this is because I recently found out that the program I need to use to work towards my major is only available for windows

I payed $2900 for all of this a little more than a week ago, and everything is immaculate. I'm asking $2400 shipped, or I would be willing to trade for a similarly spec'ed Sony Vaio s270. Profit from my loss, and help a college student out please!

If you have any questions, you can email me at jsova@purdue.edu. If you live either in the Indiana or Virginia area, we could complete the transaction in person, otherwise we could use a trading service to ensure honesty

Thanks for looking!

what is it with people buying something and 2 days later selling it and not even returning it and getting the full refund........$500 loss when you can just return the shit? doesn't make sense

Unfortunately, apple won't let you return stuff if it's built-to-order. I paid for them to upgrade some components.

well that sucks, sorry for the dickish response haha

how could you be so stupid to make a 3000$ investment into the wrong computer

Out of curiosity, would Virtual PC maybe elliminate the need to dump the entire system? Should be cheeper then the $500 loss you are willing to take on the system...

Yeah, try Virtual PC first. Isn't it included in MS Office?

I called the tech guys at my university and they said virtual pc makes the laptop run like a much slower windows machine (like a pentium III?) and I need more than that, unfortunately.

And no, it's not included with Microsoft Office. It's another $129 for the cheapest version, and $250 for the pro version.

Virtual PC runs slower than a real PC, of course, but what do you need to do? If you don't need to do something that needs the full power of a PC behind it, VPC is more than enough.

Also, if you can get away with using Windows 98 it'll run much smoother than XP.

Viper and Cross, I appreciate your offers. However, I've had some bad experiences with both Dell and Toshiba in the past and would prefer to steer away from them.

The three computers I would be most interested in trading for would be:

Sony S170/S270 (xbrite and 9700 are important here)
Asus M6Bne
Asus W1
ABS Mayhem G2 (Mitac 8050, a rose by any other name... )

Update: I've listed the powerbook on eBay for those of you interested in seeing pictures. It's here. However, if I get a reasonable trade/monetary offer, I'd be willing to end it. Thanks all, I'll be around all night so let me know if you have any more questions.

Well I don't have a S270, but how about a Sony TR2A?

I like the TR2A's alot, but what I trade for would have to act as my primary computer.

On second thought, I would be willing to trade for the TR2A if you could also add some money to even it out (around 700?), so I would be able to build a lower-end desktop. The going rate for brand new TR2A's online (ebay: "buyitnow" prices) seems to be around $1500, so a used one plus $700 seems pretty fair to me. Please let me know what you think.

I would probably go for the $700. and my TR2A if the Powerbook had the Superdrive (DVD burner), but I'm thinking along the lines of $500. BTW, do you take PayPal and have a confirmed address? As for myself, I am verified with a confirmed address.

Assuming your computer is in like new condition ($1500) plus the $700 only comes up $2200. As I said earlier, I payed like $2854 (US) after tax, but I'm not looking for an equal trade here either Adding a superdrive would have pushed the computer up into the $3000+ range

edit: I forgot to mention, yes I am confirmed on Paypal. Also, do you have some pictures you could post or email to me please? thanks.

As my offer stands now, I would already be in the red $654, and that's trading for a new TR2A. I understand the trader's instinct to counter-offer, but the TR2A+500 would put me in the hole $854.

edit: could you also post the computer specs, general condition, if it's still under warranty, etc.

What was built to order on this unit? All I can figure out is the standard version has the Superdrive, only 512mb and 64MB VRAM. for $2499. Yours has no Superdrive, 1G ram and 128mb VRAM for more money. It would seem the Superdrive balances out the extra ram and VRAM so why did it cost more or did I miss something.
