right now i am getting an dell inspiron 8600 for xmas but also want to invest in a brand new Inspiron 1150 but not sure if it is a good move. i want to know if you people think this is good enough for surfing the net and sending emails and using MSN etc? i basically want it to do everyday users do.....is it powerful enough and would i need to upgrade majorly to do what i want? i am going to wait another few months till xmas is over and then have the cash there.

The first question would be, why 2?

Why the 1150 when you have th 8600?

I could maybe see getting something like a 700m, plus a 8600.

Computers are almost never an "investment" as investments are intended to have a positive return, or least the chance of that. I don't think there is much chance of your computer being worth more than it is now in 6 months.

sorry to speak again but i keep remembering new points i want to know. as always i am a fussy person but i was curious about the inspiron 1000 and the 1150 and what are the hinges and reliability like? once those are answered and a few points of view i will go for the best one. please give me some feedback.

The 1150 is completely adequate for just surfing the net and checking email... if that's all you're looking to do, are you sure you need a second laptop?

I'm sorry but I've been bending my brain over "spoilt" for like hours now. What was the intended word

spoiled?.. for choice.. ?
A computer is an investment if you intend to use it for work...which means through the use of the computer he can potentially make money through his business. If it's just for surfing the net and email (not business email) then yes...I don't see how it could be considered an investment.

My bet is you'll end up using the 8600 and forget about buying the 1150

I can't really comment on the 1150...all I have is a brick

Well i am opening up an auction soon so i will soon be earning cash via the laptop. spoilt for choice means i have a choice of 3 laptops and if you don't understand i mean there is more then 1 laptop within my price range which some people can only afford the bare minimum. so do you lot think that the 8600 current version will drop lower when the new processor comes out?

ah ok, can you please answer the questions in my previous post post #10

I doubt if the 8600 will be dropping in price any time soon but it's hard to say. How long are you willing to wait?
If you're willing to wait until spring 2005, that's when the new procs come out. And yes, it is possible that the 8600 drop in price.

Since I have been designated grammar police for the duration of this thread, I am going to have to fine you for that one zing... That'll be 5 demerits.
