To Sager or not to Sager that is the question?

I've been researching the Sager NP-4750-V, for the last month or more trying to decide whether I should by it or buy a more popular model like HP or the other guys. I can't find very many good reviews from anywhere except here for Sager, and I'm just not sure if I trust it, or should I start considering Hypersonic or downsizing to the Uniwill Case that ABS is using. I really like the 17" screen and full keyboard but a little scared of the weight. I wonder about the tech support issue but the only company these days with good support is Apple (which I have actually started considering).

I'm trying to replace my home desktop thats over 4 years old and my office desktop that is even older. I do some CAD work as well as Photoshop stuff, but I'll be honest and say that I'm really looking for this level system for games and a longer lifespan. I hope not to replace this for another 5 years.

Any feedback would be great. Thanks

from experience I say don't get an HP. Just about everyone at my work with an HP laptop has had problems with it. I've been researching several laptops including HP, Dell, AW and Sager and finally ordered my 4750v last weekend. PCTorque has been the most responsive company I've dealt with and have answered all my questions very quickly, seems like the way to go, but we'll see when I get my machine. hope that helps

So the next question is?

Why buy from PC torque instead of Sager directly, or why not buy from Hypersonic (There Identical systems aren't they) whats the difference?

I'd stay away from HP, Compaq, or Sony. Particularly Sony.

Hypersonic is a Sager reseller, just like PCT. I haven't read much about ABS laptops.

Serious issues with Sager (that I have read on these forums) are rare. And usually, PCT steps in to assist their customers. That is why I reccomend anyone buying a Sager to go with them.

The 4750 isn't really that heavy. The full-size keyboard is cool and 17" of screen real estate is hard to pass up. Anyway, if you have more specific questions, please post them. There are a few 4750 owners here that will be more than happy to answer them. To start here is a review.

Is Hypersonic a Sager reseller or are both companies just using Clevo cases?
Clevo is the ODM and Sager is the OEM. Hypersonic, PCT, and even Voodoo (on some models) are resellers.

Someone here just bought the EX-7 (or 9860). He should have some insight on Hypersonic's policies and customer service.

Hypersonic is not a Sager reseller.

Well for a start - you won't be able to play the latest games for the next five years on ANY PC you buy today, at best - assuming you upgrade the video card and maybe the CPU to the latest available at the end of 12 months (just before they stop selling upgrades for the system you buy today) you might get 3 years out of it. As for Sager/Clevo reliability and build quality - they're tops, and customer support in my experience is as good as you'll get anywhere, just my .02.

How is that? If not, they are a Clevo reseller. Oh well, for the purpose of this thread there is not much difference.

Well, heck, I guess I done did learn wrong here. I had read (and passed on to others) that Hypersonic was a reseller. So, they are an OEM like Sager?

In continuing my research, I think that Sager offers lifetime support but Hypersonic only has 1 yr 24/7 support unless you extend. However Hyper brags that they do 72 hr tests and such. But lifetime still seems like a better deal even if they take awhile to get back to you.

I am pretty sure that Sager does the 72 hour burn in as well, its just that if you opt to go OSless (made up a new word..hehehe) they will remove it after the burn in.

This (5670) is my second laptop, and I love the thing, I will never buy another machine that is not a sager

Maybe already said, but:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageously slow computers, or to buy laptops from a reputable dealer, and by purchasing, speed up...

Hypersonic offers lifetime support as well (on all their systems).
