Formatters beware!

I’ve recently got this 2 GB USB flash drive like two months ago. I’ve learned that if I formatted my computer and reinstall windows XP with my USB flash drive in the computer, and that killed my usb drive. It was working before I was formatting the computer. I was going to use it to save my files and transfer them back to my computer after installing windows. After I’ve installed windows, it still recognizes my USB flash drive, but I cannot open it. It asked if I want to format my USB drive. I was puzzled because it was supposed to be already formatted LONG TIME AGO when I first got it. I decided not to format it and tried opening the E: drive (that was assigned to my USB drive, too). Windows diablog box said “please insert a diskette to drive E: ). I knew all my stuff in the drive is gone. I’ve decided to give formatting my USB drive a try, it wouldn’t even let me! I checked the capacity in the format window, it said “Unknown capacity”. That’s when I knew it’s officially dead. It might not be dead because windows still recognizes it as Super Talent Flash USB 2.0 drive, it’s just that the software inside the flash drive must be corrupted after formatting/reinstalling windows. Windows XP should’ve gave me some kind of warning that it might destroy the USB drive during formatting and reinstalling windows. Man, I spent $200 on it for nothing.

Well... anyone know how to get it back alive, again?

Does the drive work on any other computers?

I think I had a similar problem. My Sager lappy won't read from my friend's Jumpdrive Secure 2.0 and asks to format it...then it freezes during format. Curiously my Jumpdrive Secure 1.0 works fine.

I've tried it on my laptop, same problem appears. It worked before until after I format my PC with USB in it.

Did it come with any special management software? If not, look at the manufacturer's site and try to find anything like that. It may have more luck formatting it than Windows did.

Have you tried the U-Storage tool on the Super Talent Flash website?

http://www.supertalentflash.com/download.php

It has a recovery function that tries to recover damaged flash drives.
