Thanks for the reply... But here it mentions:

The TM300 (2U381) for the i9100/iXPS can be replaced with the TM350 (X5166) for the i9300.

The X5166 has the exact same form factor as the 2U381. Both BT adapters have the same size, length, and thickness. This is what I did for my iXPS:

So i thought should work on D600 and 9200.. I got it actually, working on 9200 since it has the cable to connect it. But on D600 there is no cable ??

I mentioned this in the link of my previous post. i600m/d600/d500 systems have an different, older, w/o a cable, BT form factor, than the now seemingly standard BT form factor (with cable) that's present on some systems of older generation (e.g., d800, d505, i8600, i9200, ixps) and current systems (i9300, ixps2, etc). And that's how those some older generation systems are able to use the TM 350 that ships with the newer systems

I have been getting conflicting reports on this. Personally, the 600m (still of the older design) I bought in January hasn't yet experienced the problem. It has been almost 5 months now with out a problem (my other two 600m's had it within a month or two) but I also heard that the BT problem may creep up even a year after (either that or they may not have used wireless altogether to notice there was a problem).

When I opened up my 600m I did notice that there was more solder/glue/or whatever it is around the BT connector on the mobo which could be that dell's "fix" and why I'm not seeing the problem. I'll get a picture of it when the next time I open up my 600m.

I guess I'll buy the bluetooth card on ebay and see what happens

I bought my 600m 4-5 Months after my Brother got his I think i got the new revision. His BT starting having problems like a two weeks after he got it. I started having the problems now 2-3 months after getting it !

Its the most annoying thing in the world I feel like throwing this laptop out the windows. And dell keeps giving me retarded comments like ohh you bought this laptop in the states so we can't service you.. (I am in Canada now)

The thing goes off and on off and on off and on. I know where the BT device is i recall my brother disecting his laptop to find it and attempt to fix it. I would not like to open it and try fixing it my self...yet
Can someone post pictures of what the old BT looked like and the New one ?
its suppose to be on the right of the LEFT speaker.

The crude fix consists of padding the BT module in specific places and you will have to do trial and error to hit the right spot when it's stable. But I suggest you do NOT pad it from the top. When you open it up and pad it, do not put the notebook completely back together to test it. Just plug in the external monitor and the AC adapter. To test if it's working, you will have to do so in two places:

1. In the BIOS: it should say "Installed"
2. In windows: when you enable wireless devices (using Fn+F2) and/or enable bluetooth using the icon in the task bar the blue light should lit. If it doesn't or you get the USB device not recognize message, it's not working.

Are you pushing it inwards or outwards into the laptop or up and down.

Away from the laptop. As I recall, I pad it on the left top side only. But you will have to see whatever works for you.

No, I don't know anyone personally working at Dell. Not that it would matter anyway in getting this issue fixed. Your best bet is to get the service tag of the notebook who had this "fixed" from the user ewodzien who posted in this thread and tell dell tech support to apply the same fix to your notebook. If ewodzien doesn't respond, PM me for the tag.

I bought a 2nd hand dell 600m in December, with a transfer of the complete care warranty (good until may '06). I just started to have this problem (bt goes on and off, sometimes unrecognized usb indicator comes on).

I assume I would have the older board?

If I were to call customer service, would I be able to find out if the previous owner (onwers) had ever previously RMA'd this unit to fix the bluetooth since I now have control of the warranty??

I have alread emailed Ed about my problem, hopefully I will hear from him soon so I can get the ball rolling to fix this.

Yes. Dell has started shipping new newer boards since march '05

I think so, dell logs these cases.

I'd really like to know if anyone has tried giving the tag to let them know how to fix the problem.

I called tech support at like 1am the other night because the backlight of my screen started failing (reboot would temp. fix the prob.). Anyways, they booked an appointment for me and I delivered the laptop to their service centre in New Market (20mins north of TO) yesterday and got it back today.

They replaced the screen (looks great).
They also replaced the motherboard and the bluetooth card. They told me both the new board and new bt card are the same as what was previously in the laptop.

The hardware seems work fine except that I now have 2 bluetooth icons in my system tray. The old (larger) bluetooth icon remains red (the "B" inside the blue oval) and it says that my bluetooth is off, but the new icon says bluetooth is on. Using the new bluetooth icon I was able to sync with my cellphone, but I don't know how to transfer anything. Plus, using the "my bluetooth places" in "My computer" says I don't have bluetooth!!!

I have tried going into the device manager and uninstalling everything to do with bluetooth, but when I reboot I have the same problem.

So to recap, I have:
2 system tray bluetooth icons.
original icon says bluetooth is off even when its on
new icon doesn't have the same functionality as the original one did.

Here are some screen shots:

Both BT icons:

I really hope someone can help me with this!!

....I really don't want to have to reinstall windows just to clear this up....

Dave, first I'd like to keep this thread relatively on-topic: as stated on the first page this thread is about a defective BT connectors on i600m/d600 motherboards and not about other BT issues such as drivers and configuration.

However, it seems in your case two drivers are confilicting with eachother: the one from dell (widcomm) and microsoft's (enumerator). Uninstall the microsoft enumerator. You should have taken out the hard drive when sending your laptop to the depot because they can really mess things up. Also make sure the bluetooth card is seen by the BIOS.
