Video Problems

Thread Starter
I have the updated BIOS, i have brand new omega ati mobile drivers, and ive thoroughly cleaned the system, yet i still keep running into these errors:

When im playing a game, all of a sudden random artifacts, and dots and everything will just flash all over....

it looks like more when i play because they show up so quickly but this is all i got in a single frame. It happens mostly in Unreal 2004, and Half life 2, but only recently, used to play the game fine.

Also after this happens if i dont restart the entire system 2 or 3 times, every blue website or anything ends up looking like this mostly when i scroll:

Im getting fed up with troubleshooting this system and am thinking the only thing i can do is send it in for repairs over winter break.. anyone have any other ideas?

Are you overclocking anything? That happens to me when I get to greety on those memory & core settings
post #3 of 40
I have the same problems, i sent it in to get fixed, and it came back with nearly the same problem again

To update my situation I called Sager last night and recieved a call from them this afternoon and obtained an RMA number. Sending it out today via 2 day air, they said 3 days to work on it, and then 2 day air back should have it back no later than the 27th of December, hopefully earlier. Will let you know what happens when I get it back.

Ah yes, I've witnessed something like that before on a desktop. I was using a Radeon 8500 at the time, I believe, and it was the result of overclocking (ever so slightly). After playing UT for a bit, objects would begin to grow spikes and there were small dots all about the screen...

nope no overclocking, it even happens when I underclock, im going to call sager to get the RMA. I'll post when i have an update on it/

I was going to suggest underclocking w/ ATiTool, but it looks like you've got that covered. I had similar problems- Clevo had to replace my motherboard. Now that I've got my unit back, I'm still not fully satisfied.

Hopefully you can get taken care of.

I have some good news for you xim, i sent an e-mail to tech support about graphics issues w/ my 8790, the same as yours, i actually used that screen shot you posted (cuz its the same thing with mine, and i'm too lazy to take one myself ) and they sent me this reply:

Hi Mike,

Good news is we just received a new video Bios for the graphic chip and was told this should fix the artifact problem (any previous Bios update does not contain video Bios update), we are making it right now so can Email to customer in the future, if you don’t mind waiting, I should able to Email it to you yesterday.

wtf and i just sent mine out for that specific issue, haha. oh well, least i'll get a new motherboard out of it.
Sager sent me a new video bios, it seems to not be a bios for the motherboard, but for the video card, It solved nearly all the graphics artifacts, i can now run CS:S at 1440 X 900 smoothly where i could only run it at like 800X600 before. If anyone wants it, either send me an AIM and i'll send you the file, or email me at mikedecoro@hotmail.com

Sager sent it to me today also. Said it should fix my in game crashes caused by the ATI. I can a few hours then I get a video crash and the game closes. Haven't tested it yet but when I rebooted it was a new video bios.

Freejack - do you also have the WXGA+ screen or the new WSXGA+ glossy screen?
Yes I do.
I should probably add I have not been able to get any Omega driver to work properly on the system. It will play games but no video playback is decent. I tried the m11_804 drivers and same problem. I have had to go back to the ones that came on the cd. Games and video all play fine with that driver.
Are you using the update 01.00.10 BIOS? You need that level for the 8.04 drivers to work correctly.
Yep did the bios update and had no change what so ever.

To get the real BIOS versions, you need to capture them as they "flash" by during bootup.
