yup

checked them all. They are really keeping the hush on this one.
your best bet would probably to ask over at Beyond3D, assuming anyone has an x800 still in their hands.

Found a Bios for the X800 Pro, X800 Pro Vivo and X800 XT PE card... not the MR though. They are running the R4** bios. Maybe it is the same... ???

I wonder if these guys have connections to find it... they have done the modification to free up the 4 pipelines the same thing we are looking to do in our cards.

The download link is at the bottom of the page. I'm not an expert on this whackamac but I hope this helps

yup... ive even looked in a few places normally not available... and still no luck. I might have to take drak's advice and talk to the review sites.

I emailed a referred contact who cracked the desktop cards. I asked him to help fill in the holes I might be missing.

Just a matter of time now. I have a good warm fuzzy feeling that this is gonna work nice, and I will crack this beeeatch.

I am gonna switch to a northwood P4 to help drop temps even more...

I'd try to get my hands on the 3.2EE processor since it is still based on northwood and very fast with 2mb L3 cache. I was thinking about getting one from ebay for ~$400 (working pull). By far the best CPU for this application.

I would agree. Either that or the 3.4 northy. The EE is still kinda spendy.

which dell's notebook have that card anyway?
whackamac, i hope you can pull this off (not only the getting the bios thing but also the pipes unlocking thing) your best bet is to talk to the reviews (one that is friendly to your cause) and either ask them for the bios or get them to talk to ATI and then get a link for you. i'll give it a go too, and i'll post if i find anything, however unlikely. i want to help in anyway i can (which would not be much cause i have no coding experience in this area).

here are some urls you can try: (you may have checked them, or not...)
(look for bios file under these, they may not have posted a link yet but the file may be there)
ftp://www.alienware.com/
ftp://ftp.dell.com/
(more will come, just give me time)
just e-mailed ATI asking for the x800 bios, i neglected say what i needed it for or anything like that, i more or less acted like i've delt w/ them before. anyway, it doesn't hurt to ask...right? the worst they can do is say 'no'.

Found an interesting review of the MR9800 at Beyond 3D

...in this instance its not surprising that ATI may be keen to keep the true lineage of M18 concealed as the last thing they would want is laptop owners trying to replicate the modding of the X800 PRO and re-enabling extra pipelines, only to find that the notebook wasn't designed for the drastic increase in heat output!
obviously this guy is thinking along the same lines as you are.

I just posted their forum for some wisdom...

oh... If someone could, what is the LOWEST clocked X800 desktop card available? (mem/core)
Sapphire X800SE.

425MHz graphics processor, 400mhz (800) memory.
got a reply from ATI, they think i am looking for the driver dispite me saying that i am "not looking for the driver, but rather the bios" (message from ATI sounded automated anyway). so i replied and hopefully they will send me a link without a lot of questions. i'll probably get the email tommarow.

lol, that is just about perfect. However, there are power saving features in the m9800 bios, I just don't see a flash to this or the new mobile x800 (due to the PCI-E interface) working.

I don't have time to jump through thier membership hoops right now (I'm actually working - not just browsing the internet like normal) but this site preports to have several X800XT bios' and flash utilities.

in the review it stated that the newer x800 desktops had the powersaving features too.

Bdork, im not sure about the PCI-E bit. The GPU is capable of both, the question is, is there a section of the bios that makes the gpu discriminate. ..

and yes that does sound perfect.... i ran the sapphire's clock speeds when I whooped HL2 and COD without a hitch. If too much heat builds, just downclock in radlinker.

From everything I've read, people that have done the x800PRO to XT didn't notice any difference in temperature anyways. It either worked, or the pipes were actually bad and it didn't.

Problem is: how do you test it? If you flash it and it doesn't boot up or something along those lines, then you are screwed. Although Dell would never know, so if you could get another though warranty then that wouldn't be so bad.

When I get a copper shim I think I'll probably AS5 the GPU and connect the two contacts as described in various x800PRO-->XT threads so if we do find out that it works later on then I can flash it.

I got my m9800 off ebay from the states (I'm in Canada) so I doubt I could get warranty support if I wanted. So I have to be careful.
