Ming, get the Sager! Screw Dell!
The only piece of hardware on this thing which I suspect will take a while to get working is the built in vid camera.
Here's a quick rundown on the state of hardware support with RH9 from my vantage point:
Video: No problem, Gnome works like butta!
Touchpad: No problem
DVD/CDR Combo: No problem with rpm kernels. Currently having problems with 2.6 kernel, but that's because I suck at this, no other reason
Sound: Haven't gotten to work on 2.4 kernel, but 2.6 driver loaded no prob. Couldn't finally confirm working sound because the cdrom wasn't cooperating
PCMCIA: Sketchy at first, but 2.6 is fine.
USB: No problemo.
Hyper Threading: Suprisingly, no problems. Pass noapic on the 2.4 kernel, but NOT on the 2.6
6in1 Card reader (4 slots? Hrmmmm?) looks promising but low priority for me. USB connection to my Cannon S110 was sweet. downloaded pic's with only a temporary permissions problem.
Dual heads. TBD. Haven't done anything with this yet.
ACPI: Nice to see the Battery level in the Gnome panel! 2.6, or patched 2.4 only. APM not safe for SMP kernel.
BTW, there are preliminary 2.6 kernel rpm's out (look for a link in my previous post. bottom of that page links to RPMs).
I'm planning on swiping the config from the prelim RedHat rpm's and building a kernel with that as my starting point. Once I have my final, I'll put a write-up somewhere.
