Clicking Hard Drive

Hey Gang!

Just got 2 4760's and so far they have exceeded my expectations.

However, one of them is making a clicking sound, sort of like a hard drive page. It's nearly all the time, and happens on both battery and AC power.

The fan also seems to run more often on this machine.

Any Ideas?

You could first try searching the forums as this has been answered numerous times and is usually due to a power saving feature of the hard drive.

Basically, try out the Intel App Accelerator program

THanks Beak, but...

The 4760 is not an Intel chipset. It's SIS. Any other Ideas?

Thanks!

Try max performance setting in BIOS?

I experienced something similar to this too. It only happens on my 4760 when indexing service is running. Since Indexing service runs constantly, checking the hard drive for new/changed files, you get a constant (every half second or so) cllicking (it's expecialy bad on my FAT32 partition). Disable Indexing service or change what it's indexing (I really only need to index "My Documents" anyhow) so it doesn't have to constantly scan the entire system.
