Toms Hardware 2.5" HD review/overview

Toms Hardware has a overview article of currently available 2.5" HDs. Nothing we don't already know, but good info. Especially if your considering spending a bunch of cash to increase your System's performance.

Nine Notebook Hard Drives Make Their Debuts - this title is a little misleading as not much is new in this article!

I find this interesting:

Is the overall effect of installing a a faster drive worth the money?? Probably "YES" for us speed freaks, but interestingly probably "NO" for most users.

Still patiently waiting for the 100G 7200.2

I wish he had put some SATA drives in there. Sager sells laptops with them so we know there are some out there. I also wish they had done game benchmarks with them to see how much of a difference it could make.

Bootup times would be cool too.

Like I said "nothing we don't know". Read this thread if you want a little detail on the sata drive in the sager.

We tested with both 80GB 5400rpm SATA drives in raid 0 vs 60GB 7200rpm PATA drives in raid 0. The SATA drives barely won in PCmark04 testing, but only in the raid 0 configuration. This is due to the throughput of the SATA technology, when combined with the raid configuration. You can see the benchmark results below in the benchmark section.
