Asus M6NE barebone arrived..where is my sticker?

hey guys, i got my M6BNE barebone today.. Damn this thing is light and sweet looking .. I love everything about it except that I can't find my "Built on Asus" sticker .. anybody knows where they hide that sticker in the package?

thanks
I think inclusion of that badge is dependent on the reseller. Some don't include a badge, some include the "built on badge", others include their own badge. Who did you buy it from?
The reseller has to have 'built on' status, which you can find at the asus website.

should be in a little pouch with the manuals.

but as pstrisik said, some vendors don't include it

personally I hate stickers of any kind on my stuff.

I peeled off all the centrino, ati, etc crap and gave my asus badge to another forum member who wanted it.

Mine didnt come with a Centrino one
I did, however, get an ATI and Pentium M one...
but oh I so wanted that Centrino one

That ASUS badge sure does scratch easily...

stickers do suck. After a while of use, they fade real quickly and give you're lappy a really bad worn look that's bigger than it's actual years.

And stickers are the trademark of a riceboy.

Hehe, you mean adding another Asus and ATI sticker doesn't give me another +200mhz FSB and +25 fps in Half Life 2.

I kind of like the Centrino one... it's pretty.
Haha... the ASUS one is nice... but like I said, it scratches too easily.
However, I'd rather have the ASUS one there than an empty blank space...

Ok, a Nice forum member is shipping me one of those "Built On Asus" sticker

I have one more question, I was trying to look under the keyboard today.. and i can't find my way down to the CPU socket..I know how to take the keyboard off and then two screws off the Keyboard cover.. but how to take that Plastic thingy with Power and other buttons on it?

You might want to use a small screwdriver inserted beneath either side of the plastic trim at the "gap" (split in the removable/liftable portion and the portion that is fixed around the lower part of the keyboard ) and lift. The cover is essentially snapped in place at these locations. It is a bit disconcerting when doing this as it takes a bit of effort to release so use care.

Well, this is the most delicate part in trying to get access to the cpu. What you need is a pair of tweezers. Put some tape on both ends of the tweezers in order to preven them from scratching the plastic cover of your lappy.
As you can see the plastic cover consists of two parts - one with the power buttons and the other one running around the keyboard compartment. In order to get to the cpu you need to take off the one with the power buttons on it - it is attached to the case just above the place where the two plastic covers meet.

In the first post there (by Underpantman) there is an Asus assembly manual in PDF format. Download it and read it before doing anything further. Take a look at the pictures where they explain how to take off the plastic cover.
Take the tweezers and gently pull inwards i.e. towards the cpu, keyboard, etc. Not upwards or anything else. You will see it come out of notebook frame. Do the same for both ends and this is pretty much it.
Hope this helps

Personally I've always been fond of brute force but the appropriate tool would be a tweezer as zlatanov noted and as is referenced in the manual (last time I had to do this I did not have one handy so I improvised a bit ). What is difficult is that it is VERY hard to see what you are doing in the confines of this "lip" so hang in there, it can get frustrating.

Ahhhhhhh pull INWARDS! I wish I had that tip when I was installing my cpu, I took a more "unleaded' approach

M6NE on eBay

I just thought that I would share the answers that I got to several questions I posted concerning an auction on eBay for a barebones/customized M6NE.

Response to your question for item #6728073015 - ASUS M6NE Laptop Notebook Custom Built System Barebone

"A couple of questions 1) What is the reserve? 2) Is this auction for just the barebones (meaning I don't have to buy anything else)? 3) what would be the price (in addition to the auction price) for one with 2.1GHz Pentium M, Hitachi 60GB 7200rpm HD, Wireless a/b/g, 1GB memory (1 SODIMM), and a Dual Layer DVD burner? Thanks."

1. $750, 2. no, you are not obligated to purchase anything else. 3. please visit our site @ www.pcusa.com for all the component pricings. thank you.

If it ends up that you are able to get a barebones M6NE for $750 that seems like a good deal. Check for yourself if interested. Once I saw that the M6NE only had 64MB of VRAM, I was no longer interested.

I'm in the Vancouver, BC area (east van!)... but I have no idea how to assemble/disassemble an M6Ne/BNe. Quite frankly, I'm kinda scared to open mine up

Sorry

Oh come on guys, it is not that hard. Did you download the PDF assembly manual? There is a picture there showing where to place the tweezers. The two parts of the plastic cover meet at the PAGE UP(to your right) and TAB(to your left) keys. Place the tweexers between the TAB and TILDA (~) keys and grab the plastic lining (put some tape on the tweezers before that to avoid scratching the plastic). Now here is the KEY part, something the PDF manual DOESN"T tell you - pull the tweexers INWARDS (and then just slightly upwards to jiggle it) as if trying to pull the plastics cover in direction of the cpu/heat pipe. Don't be as gentle as if handling a baby but also don't try using brute force to open it up. Average force should be enough to take the cover off without damaging it.
Again pull INWARDS towards the center of the laptop, and then you may try just a SLIGHT movement UPWARDS but just a slight one.
I have done this at least ten times and works flawlessly.

yeah, I made that mistake too when putting together my barebone

there's a small nick on the edge of the gap where I tried to pry it open

It's mostly covered, but you can feel it if you run your finger along the seam

I'll remember inwards next time when I'm upgrading something
