Well the firmware for the hard drive did nothing for my problem, it was laptop firmware (bios) that fixed it.
I had my laptop(i8600C) sent to the repair place because the touch pad was whacked out, they replaced it but with an older touchpad, when it used to have trackstick buttons. Anyways they put an older bios on it I guess and when I got it back and put the hard drive in it was clicking, whereas when I first got it, it wasn't. So I e-mailed dell and arranged to send it back, to get the touchpad fixed, I was going to try to fix the hard drive clicking later. So I got it back the second time and the tech sheet said they flashed the bios again, and fixed the touchpad problem.
I popped my hard drive back in and it wasn't clicking anymore.
Try updating the bios if you can, I'll see what revision I have on my i8600c later tonight.
