"Low battery" shutdown -- on AC power?

My 9860 is shutting down when it's running on AC power. The green AC power button is on/steady, the battery led is orange/steady ... Anyone have any ideas? It happens at least once a day.

At first I thought maybe it was something to do with the power pack overheating, but just now, after the laptop was on maybe an hour, it beeped and switched off...

Try a different outlet. The 9860 draws a lot of power 180W and the outlet might not be wired correctly which might be why the battery is running down. Next would be Power Brick problem and then the Motherboard.

Ohh, thinking of that...

I'm going to be using my 9860 in Japan a whole lot; would you expect there to be any major issues?

Low battery ... more

Thanks for responding! Problem is, the battery itself isn't low, I should've made this clearer. I called it "low battery shutdown" because what is happening is the same as what happens with a low battery, except the battery is charged above the 6%. I guess because the orange battery light is on when the alarm sounds, the battery is seen as "being charged" ...

The last time this happened, when the low battery alarm started beeping, I fiddled and reset the power connector in the back of the laptop to make sure it was in correctly. The laptop shut off, and when I turned it back on a minute later, the battery said it was at 99% ...

Confused .... any more thoughts?

I would agree with potato, either the power brick or the connection to the mother board or the converter on the mother board.

What happens when you take the battery out and run it off A/C? Mabey the battery is sending a false signal to the lappy that it is dead?
