Dell Screen protector (15.4" for 8600) in all its crappy glory

OK, thought some of you might want to know what the Dell screen protector looks like...I'm not at all impressed, but it was about $7-8 shipped, so I can't complain too much (but I will anyway )

Here are the pics. Note the adhesive tape border that holds it on...real high-end stuff here Yes, it is a little reflective (but not as much as the pics I've seen for the NuShield). Plus, mine came with a big honkin' crease in the plastic.

In all fariness, if you get a larger screen size (the 15.4" from Dell is about 1/8" to 1/4" short on the sides) and take off the bezel/frame and install it, it might not be that bad.

Yeah, hit them with a stick or something for me, would ya?

Since its so screwed up (I've noticed several more creases/indentations from something), I'm removing it. This thing comes flat in one of those bubblewrap envelopes...real protective. It should be rolled up in a cardboard tube or something actually usefull.

Do Nushields have adhesive tape barriers, too? I don't know if they are behind the bezel/frame that everyone says you have to remove to install them.

Wasted a perfectly good dellf coupon for nothing...

Hey, DELL!

That's one great protector! Wonder what happens when you get too mad and rip the entire thing off... does it damage the LCD and void the warranty, too?

could've been worse. dell could have pre-installed the screen protector with a warehouse staple gun.

Hey, DELL!
nushield doesnt have tape or anything. its juz a film and u have to tuck it under the bezel. u dont have to remove the bezel to fit the nushield in, u can always juz try n tuck it under the bezel without removing it, which i did on my 2nd attempt to fit the nushield in and it isnt as difficult as everyone says. juz took me 10mins to do it, wifout taking off the frame.

I think you would have been better off buying some Seran Wrap.

Update:

Yesterday, I received my NuShield in the mail (surprise! an actual hard mailer with two pieces of cardboard to keep it from getting damaged during shipping).

Upon removing the Dell screen protector, I noticed gummy adhesive residue all around the edges where that tape strip was. About 20 minutes later, most of it was removed.

Great product you got there Dell.

yeah, my nushield came in a great cardboard protected sleeve too. what do you think of the nushield slip? I don't see myself ever taking the thing off, I love it.

Well, it took me about 2 hours to get it on, and its still not perfect.

I don't know how people put it on without removing the bezel. It was too big on all 4 sides (I know it has those points at the center top and bottom, but the sides were too big also). I had to remove it. Trying to get it in place without removing the bezel resulted in a slight crease/bend in the plastic.

But after looking at both of these, if anyone can find a roll of transparency film big enough I would just use that instead--same difference, lower price.

If anyone is planning on putting one of these on, I would clean the screen, remove the bezel, use a can of compressed air to ensure its dust/hair-free, and carefully peel the film off and apply it all at once.

But the damn static cling this thing had was litterally pulling hair and dust from about a foot away and sticking to it...real fun installation.

Thats why I posted here! Gotta warn people about this crap. A picture is worth a thousand words...

omg thats crap.. i guess its nushield for me. i leave my lappy on the table and don't always close it..and i leave it on. afraid opening/closing will loosen the hinges. and dust settles on the screen.

with the nushield does dust get attracted to it a lot?

I think dell gets their screen protectors from this company:
http://protectcovers.com/screen_protectors.htm

Is/was yours completely colorless or does it have a blueish color? And yes, they're bad. They don't hold well to the screen and fall off eventually. When I received it it came attached to a thicker plastic and now that I think about it, it might have been that plastic that was the actuall protector! That other film was there to protect it from dust/fingerprints after production.

Why do I think that? Because when I bought NuShield for my 600m, it also came with two pieces stuck together. But the directions stated that it was the actual tougher plastic that was the lcd protector! It does fit real well to the screen but isn't for everyone.
