IBMX40 or Asus S5N? - Page 2

I think it is important to point out that the original poster liked the warranty options offered by IBM and Asus (global 3 and 2 year respectively). The W2 is an IMPORT and is supported only by Dynamism (I think Kemplar offers these as well under the same warranty scenario). Risky proposition if you ask me when it comes to having any problems that arise addressed.

Actualy the W2 is sold by Panasonic in the US. You can buy it from www.portableone.com

Also, Enderet, the original poster was liking the power provided for by a NON- ULV P-M...you have referenced ULV based systems which will, of course, garner better life off of a smaller battery. .3 more pounds to have 8 hours of battery life on a system with a P-M 725? It's really a no brainer.

If the weight is the same, or in the case of the W2, lighter, why not take the one with the optical drive?
Then why did you link to dynamism which is importing them?

My post before this with regards to ULV vs. normal P-M still stands.

Enderet...1.1MHz ULV P-M does not compare to a P-M 725...is this sinking in yet?

How about the $800 price difference...is a system with an optical drive IN it vs. provided externally and which offers a much slower processor worth that kind of price premium? Quite simply, no.

I know that, but I was never arguing against that. Please quote me where I said 1.1 does compare to 725.

If the price is $700 cheaper, why get the one that will give you 5.5 hours of battery life (w2) while one will give you 8.5 hours (s5n), and the 8.5 hour laptop will get you a dothan in contrast to a slower(ulv), less performing laptop?

I dont understand. S5N gives you better battery life, Better performance, and at a whopping $700 dollars off.

Hmm, am I reading something wrong here?

Signed, stamped, mailed and sent in for copyright! Thank you, finally someone here is understanding .

Haha... you guys.

What I said was... 2 hours of battery life sucks, with a standard battery. Period. I made it clear that I was not talking about the extended battery. Yes?

Now, I dont care if its an ultraportable or not, 2 hours of battery life sucks, when it is standard, yes?
Once again you are refering to a 6 cell battery that comes with the W2, to a 3 Cell battery that comes with the S5N.

Please understand that Asus gives a 3 cell battery and a 9 cell battery STANDARD with the S5N.

If you compare similiar 6 cell batteries with both laptops the S5N is on par with the W2, with a FASTER processor.

Edit: I do not mean anything offensive with this post. I just want you to understand this simple point.
What is standard in this case, Enderet, as BOTH batteries are currently being provided with the S5Ne? Perhaps he will always use the larger battery thus making it "standard" and sacrifice a back breaking .3 pounds of portability.

Edit: JFVergara, you're starting to scare me.
Standard = what it says in vergara's sig.

2.8 pounds [w/ Regular battery]

BTW: Vergara, what is the point of those huge letters? I read what you wrote the first time.

Oh and unleaded, I am still waiting to see where I said 1.1 was comparable to the other processor.
What do you want me to do? Make it more politically correct. Okay I'll change "Regular" to "3 cell" and "extended battery" to "9 cell"

Since we are all editing our posts, I suggest we all read our edits. Yes, I scare myself sometimes .
Enderet, stop getting hung up on semantics...both batteries are provided with the S5Ne currently, so there is no STANDARD battery per se. The "standard" can be decided by the owner by selecting their preferred battery capacity.

YOU ARE MAKING MY BRAIN HURT!

I think I agree with JFvergara. I really like the white Asus S5N. So you get a free 9 cell battery now? Is it possible to order this laptop from the Netherlands and is the warranty valid from here?
Enderet, you didn't say that it was comparable, I was pointing out that they were NOT comparable and that the ULV in the W2 was largely responsible for the longer battery life off of a 3 cell battery in that system. A significant trade off in processing power to save .3 pounds if you ask me...

Yes, International Warrenty.

Man I thought it was 3 years back in August but I'm getting word that it's 2 years now. I dont know I have to check, but it is an international warrenty.
Idolater, Asus Ensemble systems such as the S5Ne carry a STANDARD 2 year global warranty...dunno about who sells it in the Netherlands, however.

Lmao. Oh the irony. Once again Enderet if you didnt read my post I didnt mean to offend you or anyone with my big letters. It's just (like Unldeaded) it makes my brain hurt that your not understanding.

Oh, to the original poster. Yes they are giving away 9 cell battaries for free. If you get the Asus W1N you get a free wireless router (I'm not sure on this they seem to be offering 2 things for the W1N depending on what version you get or something like that).
