512 is recommended for HL2...I guess thats where he got confused...musta thought more was bad

at least he did not get teh recommended spec for HL1... I quote from the box:

"Pentium 3 or AMD Athlon, 64MB RAM, 3D Vid card"...that would have been a disaster

In his first post in this thread he said he would be upgrading to 1GB of OCZ memory. I don't see why you're on such a crusade here to prove someone wrong.

why not downgrade to 2 6800GT's which are fine, and get the 1 gig of low latency ram when you bought it? then you wouldnt be worrying about upgrading...

right now your 6800ultra is bottlenecked to about 1.5 6800GT's thats like $300 out the window untill you upgrade to 1 gig in the summer.

you would probably make an insane profit because pci-e 6800ultras go for as much as $700 in stores. a peice.

and i think the 6800GT's from monarch are $445 a peice. thats a heafty profit.

That would be a Mazda RX-8, I believe.

As for astu, I think you need to calm down buddy... he didn't blow your money, did he? Let him do what he wants. Yes, the dual Ultra's may be bottlenecked by the lack of RAM, but they're top of the line graphics cards for god's sake - TWO of them... It's not gonna stop him from playing many games. And if it will (for whatever reason - I have a GeForce 4200 Ti, and I'm chugging along pretty well), then it will only be temporary for the next few months.

And most games are in the 3+ GB range, this may be true, and he would be limited to 9 games or whatever you said. Who said that's not enough for him? Some people, such as I, can easilly deal with 1 or 2 games at a time.
