How do I open email attachment in DOS??

I received an updated BIOS from Sager in an email attachment. It must be opened and executed in DOS. I know I'll have to boot in DOS but then what? Any suggestions. Please see the following thread for background.

In your email program - select the save attachment (save attachment as) to the desktop or another location of your choice. Then copy that file to a floppy disk for further use within DOS.

That would be my suggestion. If you can't save the attachement, then your ISP may prevent you from actually receiving that type of attachment because of virus concerns. This is especially true with EXE files and some ZIP files. Yahoo has proven to be problematic for this. Cox won't let the EXE attachments be delivered - even though you can see an attachment, just can't get to it.

Be very careful with that, since it sounds like you're unfamiliar with updating BIOS. If you mess up, you'll have to send the notebook in for repair.

Next, you should get detailed step by step, instructions. Possibly from the Sager Support site. Basically, you create a "DOS" boot disk, and copy the bios file to it. Then you boot to it and it runs.

Could you execute in the DOS emulator by any chance?

I actually wonder how people have been updating their bios as I am not aware of any newer Sager laptops that have floppy drives- can the update be done through a windows utility?

Also, how are people installing windows with a RAID setup on their 9860s as you require a driver on a floppy during the windows install?

I'm guessing those that have been successful have a usb floppy drive, but I also wonder if the bios recognizes that as a bootable floppy device.

Okay guys, you've been great with information and help. I think I have enough information to give it a try. If you don't see me back for a week it's because I screwed things up and am working night and day to get it back in order. Just hope it doesn't have to go back to Sager. Been there, done that!
