Most quiet Notebook?

Thread Starter
In your opinion, what is the most quiet notebook on the market (keeping budget in mind?) Thanks
post #2 of 13
A notebook without a fan.

Sharp MM10 or MM20 (both are fanless, but MM20 is faster and newer).

Panasonic W2 is fanless as well. But that one is more expensive. The MM20 you can get for about 1,300.

I had an old Thinkpad. Not fanless but you couldn't tell it was on most of the time.

Silent and Expensive?

Sony X505.

Yes, ThinkPads definately have a reputation for being quiet. My 600x was nearly silent most of the time. If you can afford it and don't mind using the recovery software instead of actual full-install discs, go for an IBM.

Otherwise, I've heard that the Compal CL56 -- a very popular notebook in these forums -- is also a very cool & quite notebook.

Yup my T42 is wonderfully quiet. When the fan comes on you hear a very slight woosh for a second and then silence.

please what u talking about. Well so far I dont recomend a cl56 I returned it and now Im getting a replacement. The fans are driving me nuts and sorr the powerbook g4 is the quietest notebook becuase the fans only come on after on hour of gaming but thats for only for a minute then it stop and goes on agian another 30minutes or so. The powerbook g4 is ver fast for how quietr it is. The fan is 99.99 percent not their. It is as fast as a centrino 1.6ghz or higher not that bad concerdiering how quiet it is.

Davidlove, you are the only person I have ever seen here on the forums that had trouble with the CL56 fan. My CL56 was absolutely quiet and I had absolutely no problems with it. My other friends that bought CL56s also had no trouble with theirs.

I dont mean this offensive, and if you take my post as being offensive then let me say I am sorry in advance. But what in holy moses are you talking about? There are centrino notebooks on the market, just like Enderet and I stated, that have NO fans an example of this is the Sony X505. Couple that with a company that is known to make the quietest notebooks in the buisness , Seagate, and you have a near silent portable notebook system.

Edit: (The sharp notebooks arent centrino if I'm not mistaken, they are Transmeta. Someone please correct me on this if I am wrong).

ID dont find it offensive in anyway but how does thaty have to do anything about my cl56 noisy fan. I know they make the the most quietest notebook in the world but what does thaty have to do with my cl56.

Nope, the two I cited are not Centrino. Those two Sharps have Transmeta processors, the MM10 a crusoe and the MM20 a Efficeon.

Other notebooks of theirs have AMDs.
