Hrana, i couldnt wait, i was so jealous of you and your laptop that i ran out and ordered it today... 5 minutes ago and it should be here next week
post #23 of 88
hey, i'd like to think i had something to do with it too
post #24 of 88
infiltrateib, dont think i forgot you from the other thread. You guys rocked!! 2 heads work better than one and in this case it definitly worked out for the better! Next time i buy something im gonna consult you guys....

Alright so quuestion of the day what kind of toilet paper? I was thinking Charmin Ultra, but i just dont know
post #25 of 88
"Ultra" Charmin has issues with two-ply backwards compatibility with one-ply buttocks. They basically traded new features for reverse compatibility with unaccustomed asses.

Cottonelle has been reviewed on various sites and appears to be slightly faster (less cheek-gripping) but with more bugs (apparently it has a tendency to rip).

Charmin is going to have marginally better features, including aloe and support for the long-awaited "Vitamin E," but will be slightly more expensive. I also hear their tech support sucks, as my friend hit up Taco Bell after a hangover and was on the line with them for 7 hours.

Or you could just get the Sager brand. It's dirt cheap, weighs in at about 16lbs in brick form, is supposed to be shipping exactly half a month from whatever day you read this, and apparently is manufactured from the same ODM as Cottonelle.

Ah, the M60....I was really really considering it, and even had a setup with a 1.7, 512 ram, etc.. (basically top of the line) for 3300 bucks shipped. I searched the internet and ebay for small business coupons that had me getting like 17% off.

Then, I decided to punch in a top of the line D800, which is basically the same exact laptop minus the 7200 RPM hard drive and 128MB Video Card. After configuring this, along with an extra primary battery and port replicator, I was about 800 dollars under the price of the M60. I added 300 to the price of the D800, because I would buy the 7200 RPM hard drive from NewEgg, which made it the same computer other then the video card. I didn't think a video card upgrade was worth 500 dollars, a battery, and port replicator. Thats a 750 dollar difference!

As a teenager about to go off to college in a few weeks and paying for his laptop on his own (About 3/4 of the money I made this summer working), the choice was clear.

I really think that the D800 is a smokin' computer and it should be more than enough for the next 3 or 4 years. I am very happy with my purchase.

One last thing, make sure to looka round the internet at sites like dealnews.com, fatwallet.com, and dealcatcher.com for Dell coupons, because they are very simple ways to save hundreds of dollars, which is never a bad thing! Good day.

infiltrateib, that was the first time i laughed outloud because of a forum post, i actually called my girlfriend away from the TV to read this. she now in the bathroom freshening up (pissing and laughing)
Very good advice about the coupons. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait and didn't find any at the time. I do love the laptop though. It is schweet to the 10th degree. I have been playing quake3 all day non-stop.

bigshloss, im in the same position, but i decided to work my ass off as a waiter to make the money for a laptop that would beat all, but since sagers dont have battery we have to spend extra for some battery time.

Hey Hrana, some pics? did you get the second primary battery?

If it works makes the price only 2576.. but they would probably take 20% off the non sale price of 3500 which makes it around $2800 which is a really nice price.

ThinkPad T40p

$3,221.10* ($2800 using first time buyers thingy)
Intel® Pentium® M processor 1.60GHz

64MB ATI Mobility FIRE GL 9000

Ultrabay Slim
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo
NoneIntegrated Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
56KV.92 designed modem
IBM 11 a/b Wi-Fi Wireless and Bluetooth Combo
IBM Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0
I don't know if that is a good deal?? For $3000 I have my M60...and the difference between my machine and the one you have listed is I have twice the RAM, a 7200 RPM hard drive, the latest 128MB FX Nvidia card, a 15.4" WUXGA screen, and integrated 802.11g.

I got the second primary battery. It's actually VERY easy to switch out. No screws, you basically slide the old out and the new in...
oh ok cool, i think im gonna order one of those bad boys
post #34 of 88
Loki: sorry I didn't see your post asking me about the second battery. I did not get it because I didn't feel I needed it on a laptop that already gets about 4+ hours on its primary battery. Although it is very tempting.

Amazingly my new stick of ram came today as well!!! I was very surprised because I did not think it would be here till wednesday. Regardless, I am very happy.

The only problem I have had so far is with the wireless card. Seems like windows and the native driver keep fighting for control of it. Once I resolved that, the next problem has been a very very flaky wireless connection that does not hold in certain parts of the house. What's weirder is i have a netgear PCMCIA card (MA401) in another laptop and it is rock solid everywhere. I am honestly considering buying the Truemobile 1150 mini-pci or Intel 2100 wireless mini-pci card because I can't take it anymore.
I currently have the tri-band truemobile 1400 card.

Did your M60 came with that wireless card? Mine will come with the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 W.LAN, is this a good card or should I look into changing it before my order is shipped?

Hey Hrana, I had the same problem but got it resolved when I called Dell tech support. A few things I remember from the call. Make sure you disable the XP firewall, it doesn't like to cooperate with the card. Download the latest drivers for the card (unless it came with your machine, mine didn't), which have the official 802.11g compliant spec. Also, if you used the network wizard to setup your network it installed a network bridge (which can be viewed under you network connections) which will cause you to lose your wireless connection like every 30 seconds (a known Microsoft issue). You need to delete the network bridge. Now my card get's an excellent connection and stays connected at 54Mbps.

If you have any questions I'll do my best to help you. If you do call Dell tech make sure you press the option for the wireless group. They are alot more knowledgeable on the subject than normal tech. BTW, what router are you running?
Almost forgot, under authentication make sure that the "enable ieee 802.1x authentication" box is unchecked. It also causes your connection to go down every 30 seconds or so.

Can you find an equivalently equipped machine for less money? If you can I'm sure we'd love to all hear about it!! By equivaltently equipped it should have the latest 128MB dx9 card, 7200 RPM drives, a very high quality UXGA or WUXGA screen, and integrated gigabit ethernet and 802.11g. Looking forward to your response!!

A brick...I'm not sure where you come up with that one. Sager 5680 and 8890 machines weigh about 10 and 12 pounds. The Alienware that you are waiting for weighs 9 pounds according to the latest techTV article. And the M60 only weighs 7-8 lbs. Better do you research before you post something like that. The upcoming Alienware will be a nice machine, but I sure hope you don't plan on gettting it cheap because it will run you as much as the M60.
A fully loaded m60 cost over $6300. The new alienware will run around $4500 fully tweaked...MAYBE $5000 max. That dell system is definately overpriced though. The toshiba P25-S607 system is a better system than that dell for sure. That video card wouldn't hold up much to gaming...hence why it's a "workstation" laptop.
