Am I making a mistake ordering a Dell 8600? - Page 2

Don't get the 8600, if she's worried if its going to be heavy. It not overly heavy, but heavy enough that you don't want to be carrying it around everywhere.

I don't know if the screen res is good enough, but I'd consider the benq 7000

The D800 keyboard does fit in the 8600... I believe the keyboard is identical. It's the chassis that's different.

I don't feel that the 8600 is heavy for a machine of its power. Fully decked out, it weighs in at 7.2 pounds. Just my opinion -- others may feel differently.

Hmm... I guess if the feel of D800 is no different, then no point in me getting that. Oh well... guess I'll just have to live with it and wait a few years to get a new notebook... and make sure I test a notebook thoroughly before plucking down over a thousand dollars. It is not the flexing problem. In fact, mine does not flex at all. Just the feel of the surface of keys is really bad. Thanks.

I have had my 8600 for over a year now and have not been any happier, have not had a single problem whatsoever!!!!No Errors,Bluescreens, Zero dead pixels.. I'm a part time gamer as well and this machine is a Beast on any game thus far, just finished Half Life 2 at High settings and it played flawless, I must say its the best investment I have made to date......

You mean you don't like the texture of the keys... gotcha. Sorry I misinterpreted the original question.

Yeah, I really HATE the texture of the keys. That is the main issue. My fingers keep sliding over them and it drys up my fingers fast.

Man, interesting. I've noticed the flex problem on my own. But as far as texture. None. No problem. I can fly on this thing.
