Unfortunately, that specific information is not currently available to me.

I will keep my eyes and ears open; as soon as I hear anything new about the 5500 and the 9800 upgrade module, I will post it on notebookforums.com.

Interesting... I'll have to wait and see what happens next too. Maybe I'll get more RAM this Christmas instead of the 9700.

A 9800 upgrade would make me fully happy with my AW purchase...we'll see...as it stands now a 9600 to 9700 as my only upgrade (at least only upgrade worth considering) seems a little disheartening to me! Oh well...overall I am very content with my purchase but my biggest selling point was the upgradeability and with no 256mb 9800 or higher card as of yet...I am a little upset...hopefully AW will happily surprise us all!!!

I'm alittle lost - who exactly has hard proof this is going to happen. Seems to me this is just another "maybe"
Nope...they're working on it. Steve (AW employee) made an official post here about it

I can't wait... this would truley make me a happy AW buyer... I mean the the 256mb 9800 should make my laptop last the expected 2 and a half more years at least...

A MR9800 256mo / 256bit ? damn , alienware , what are you waiting for ??? Unleash the beast now !

yeah, I havn't had the opportunity to purchase any upgrades, if they throw the 9800 out there I'll be a satisfied customer .. on some level I wish I could have an x800m in my machine but a 9800 would make me happy enough not to complain, heh
