Anybody had dell replace a screen before?

One of my looser coworkers decided that instead of walking accross the office to hand me my keys, he would throw them... Im sure you know what happened next. I need to replace the screen on my inspiron 9100, just the regular WXGA screen. Anybody got an idea what a repair like that would cost from Dell, and if its going to perform like new, I know one of my friends replaced his laptop instead of replacing the screen. any help would be appreciated.

If it's not covered under warrenty, I would sugest calling Dell spare parts, order the lcd and install it yourself. It will perform like new. Here is how you do it.

Check ebay, sometimes you can find them in the ~$200ish range. Here's one I find just doing a real quick search.

The Latitude C400 gave to me by my company has a loose hinge. So I ask the IT to call Dell see if they are able to fix the problem. The notebook is still under the 3 year warrenty my company bought. So Dell just replace the whole screen module for me without charging a dime.

Sorry to hear about the price. Was it for a replacement LCD or an additional monitor? Sure it's not covered under warranty?

Monkey Boy might be right, you may have to go to an outside source for a less expensive replacement monitor.

Good luck!

sure i did

i once had a 5150 that got caught in the rain (actually it rained through my backpack) and the next thing i knew my screen looked like christmas lights all the time... they replaced it under warranty... never even asned HOW it happened... just checked symptoms and then replaced it... it was a great experience and has kept me with dell ever since.

I am looking at the ones on Ebay.. but I only see some avaible for the 8600.. this should work for the 9100 and XPS right? I know the screens are the same..but maybe the connection is different..?

I have the regular WXGA 1200x800... and it kind of sux becuzz alot of games I been playing dont support widescreen so I have to play at 1024x768 and we all know if u dont play at the native resolution.. it looks like ass....

so I was thinking about upgrading to the next step higher.. so when I play a game thats not supported with widescreen I can at least play @ 1280x1024 non wide screen with black edges on each side..

anyways the question put simple.. will the 8600 display work on my i9100?
