Sager vs Dell

I am interested in sager 9860 since it has pci-e. How is its reputation when compared to Dell? How is the quality of the laptop build: keyboard, monitor, laptop repair rate, etc? I'd like to get a Dell but I am tired of waiting for them to support pci-e. I may settle for i9200 but I really want a more future proof laptop. One thing I like about sager is that they do not nickel and dime you to death on upgrades like Dell.

how is getting a non upgradable pci-e notebook more futureproof? im not ragging on sager, but just genuinely curious. so its pci-e... 6 months from now that 6800go will not be the top of the line nemore (well actually a lot less than that ) but just because its pci-e doesnt mean anything.

Sager is a good quality, reputable company with quite a few fans. Its notebooks are known to be pretty well-manufactured -- good build construction and keyboard especially. NOT saying that all machines are perfect -- there have been quite a few instances of defects listed in the Sager section.

My next notebook *may* be a Sager, but that's four years (at least) away.

Thx for the response. Yeah, I have noticed the problems in the support forum. The PCTorque guys seems pretty helpful tho. I like the fact that the 9860 comes with an optional built-in tv card. I want to do some video capturing from VCR.

I had a Sager 5680 for 1 year and LOVED it, not one problem as far as anything breaking. I would have gotten another one, but that $800 off an iXPS awhile back was too good to pass up.
If your gonna get a Sager, get it from the folks at PC Torque.

If you are ready to buy get the Sager, it sounds like a good fit from what you've said.

The issues I noticed for myself with the 9860 are:

1) Palm rest heat- the one I saw was quite warm, and the touch pad was even warmer.

2) Battery life- seems around 90 min.

3) Weight - probably one of the heaviest around. The i9200 is much lighter.

The pluses are: Very fast machine, 2 hard drives (in JBOD, raid 0 or 1), nice reflective WSXGA screen, great video board, legacy ports, IR, S/PDIF out, gigabit ethernet, built in tuner, good support (PC Torque). It's *truly* a DTR.

from what i heard you should halve your battery life there, i here 30- 45 minutes with gaming

I remember one post saying that they consider the batteries in the 9860 to be just a UPS.
