Will it be possible to pre-order the 5680 at the same time as the 8890 and just the delivery dates will be different?

Good question, i would also like to know the answer to this one.
same here
actually i think it's those evil marketers. You see the people that really need a laptop for school might have to buy the 8890 which cost more then the 5680 so they will gain some money out of the people that orignal wanted to buy 5680

Impressive stats, they beat my desktop....strange comparison to the laptops of yesteryear.

But one question before I open my wallet and take the plunge.

What are its LCD stats with AC power? The rise/fall time, its brightness, contrast and view angle.

I can accept a smaller screen of quality.

After all a 22"+ high res lcd is only fit for information display and advertising if its has a rise and fall time of 60ms+ a 250:1 cont or a 200cmd2 bright. Everything else on the laptop is a peach.

Who can provide this? Its not like its R&D "secret squirrel" stuff.
damn! now I might have to get the 8890 instead of the 5780 depending how how much the "delay" will last... but awesome benchmarks, the delay notwithstanding, smokes my desktop

Way to go 8890!!!

My turn for the bananas...

Oh, man.

I don't think I have ever seen a desktop with those benchmarks, let alone in a laptop.

I feel like a little kid again, trying to fall asleep the night before Christmas, or my first visit to Disneyland.

And doesn't it feel like a long night, fellas?

Well, this is the first time I have danced in this forum. Go easy on me.

Sleep well, mates!

my comparison

i thought this would be interesting to compare my desktop stats and the new 8890 stats that Adam posted. here goes...

My Sys .. 2.8 GHZ CPU 800FSB, 2x 512 DDR PC3500, 2x 120GB 7200 rpm SATAs/RAID0, DX9(??), ATI 6.14.10.6343 (NO O/C'ing)

Sandra 2003 CPU ALU
8887 9511
8890 9964
MY SYS 8655

Sandra 2003 CPU FPU
8887 2651
8890 2766
MY SYS 2425

Sandra 2003 CPU SSE
8887 5667
8890 6132
MY SYS 5419

Sandra 2003 CPU Multi-Media Integer
8887 14172
8890 14777
MY SYS 12,955

Sandra 2003 CPU Multi-Media Float
8887 21969
8890 23097
MY SYS 20,557

Sandra 2003 Memory Bandwidth
8887 1971/1968
8890 4076/4102
MY SYS 4,629 / 4,635

Sandra 2003 File System
8887 23264
8890 44405
MY SYS 69,779

N/A for 3DMARK ... didn't do it.
3DMARK01SE Build 330
3DMARK03 Build 320 with 330 patch

So, i think that is very strong for that new 8890. WOW.. I'm impressed with those numbers. You can see that my sys with those SATA drives kicks some but ... but the 8890 is very impressive I think even with those HDD numbers. And, the memory is just b/c I'm running @ PC3500... And, then it whops me on all the CPU ...

Just wondered how it would play out on mine ... thanks. -ot

Any idea on the core/memory clock speeds of the gpu of these benchmarks? Also is the "overdrive" feature utilized here? What are the benchmarks for this feature on and off?

Vanfanel ... are you asking me regarding MY benches or Adam regarding the 8890 benches?

If for me ... my memory clock speeds are all just set to standard settings ... iow, i haven't done any manipulation to my bios settings trying to OC this.

If you are talking about that GAT/PAT etc... in regards to the "overdrive" ... my sys is based on the 875P so "supposedly" PAT is included b/c of the so-called "better" silicon used in my chipset. So, I haven't turned any of this on or off ... I just plugged all my stuff in and running pretty much standard out of the box.

HTH ... -ot

Oh I was asking about the 8890 and the "overdrive" (auto-overclocking) feature. I assume this feature is available on all the m10-pro chips and just needs to be enabled.

Explanation

For a neophyte in this area, can someone explain the different Sandra and 3dmark tests, and what they should mean to someone like me? Thanks much!

As a precision M60 owner I have to say these benchmarks are awesome. No doubt the 8890 will have the "raw power" performance crown. Congrats!
