I was given this laptop(1 year old), Celeron 2.2, 40 gig, cdrw/dvd,256 pc2100, that took a power surge and is now totally dead. no lights no anything. I did replace the a/c adapter with no help. I tried removing the main battery, reset the CPU, moved the ram to another slot, etc. with no help. Is the motherboard the only other thing I can replace? I did notice that under the base next to the ram access cover is another access panel.....Video memory upgrade????? There is 1 slot in there but it is empty....Is this my problem????? Any ideas???? I also have another Gateway laptop- Solo 5300 that needs a DVD drive and some pc100 memory. I need to get 1 of these working asap!!!!!
