General acer laptop question

Thread Starter
I'm planning to buy a acer laptop. Specifically, the acer 4002.
Since the laptop with the windows xp home is around 60$ cheaper than the windows xp pro version, and I have windows xp pro at home.
I was wondering if its worth the hassel to reformat the laptop and use my own os?
Also, what CD's do acer laptops come with. Do they come with the full version of windows XP w/ SP2?
If I installed my own version of win xp, it would take some time for me to update the services packs.

Technically, that is against Microsoft Licence Agreement. But yes you could do that. The only benefit usually is on the Acer one, they have the required driver(s) already installed for you, if any.

I have Acer Aspire 1681 which is almost the same as TravelMate 4000.
It was delevered with Recovery CDs/ the 4 pcs in the pack, as I remember/ of Windows XP Home. It means you coudn't install the notebook's XP on another computer.
But if you want to install outside OS/ i.e. XP Pro/ on the notebook, it shoudn't be a problem.
Anyway, I still haven't tried that

you can install whatever OS you want on that laptop that is legit
with your own product key

and that isn't against the Microsoft agreement if it's not an OEM copy that you have of windows
IF your not using ur copy on any other machine that is
