New LV Athlon 64 notebook w/ ATI PCI-Express GPU - Page 2

woohoo, if we've got Snorre on the bandwagon, then you know we've got a winner ...come on everybody, jump on!!!

In addition, it has a 90w power supply (if memory serves, I'm too lazy to check). That seems rather low for the DTR chip.

Someone asked this earlier:

M28 is the X800, I believe.
post #23 of 40
90W wold be enough for a DTR chip, but probably barely considering everything else that runs. The DTR is 81?W, but I know of people that have put a DTR in an emachines m68xx with no problems. They also have a 90w brick with them.

Are there any tests around that show the relative speed of X700 compared to 9700 Mobile? I can only find X800.

Also, http://www.beyond3d.com/previews/ati/m28/index.php?p=11 states :
"While we discussed the aforementioned Mobility Radeon 9700 as the previous enthusiast product, one thing to note is that the Mobility Radeon X800's are only going to be in much larger chassis mobile solutions and be in a much smaller niche."

What is their "larger chassis"? Does it mean no extra thin Sonys with these cards, but the common 2-3kg laptops will still have them?

Hey everyone, lets all email Arima about the battery (6 cell) used in this notebook. Let them know that we want 12 cell, atleast as an option. 12 cell would rate this notebook at 6 hours battery time, 8 cell 4 hours, 9 cell 4.5. Let's take som action. This notebook would be the best ever if it had a bigger battery. I for one wouldn't care for the little extra weight and bulk.

http://www.arima.com.tw/contatct.htm The model we are talking about is W622-DK8X/UK8X

Don't mean to be a nitpick but this is something that could be confusing...

PCI-X is not PCI-Express, it is an upgraded version of standard PCI.

PCI-E *is* PCI-Express, and is a completely new technology that is backwards compatible with PCI.

You can see at the PCI Special Interest Group website that PCI-E and PCI-X are cleary two different things:

Sorry if my shorthand confused you. I do not have to be told the difference between PCI-X and PCI-E, I'm not that stupid. My mistake, my shorthand, sorry for any detremental confusion you may have suffered .

Arima has another low-power Mobile Athlon 64 model with PCI Express coming that got 4.5 hours battery life:
http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=55975

I don't know, but maybe this is the so-called "Centrino killer" ?
post #33 of 40
That very well could be the centrino killer. Getting 4.5 hours of battery life is definetely competitive, against the Centrino 5-7 pounders.

Try contacting eMachines, Voodoo Computers, Americomp, Northgate and/or Gateway and ask them about availability (they all sell Arima based notebooks).
post #39 of 40
eMachines = broken hinge nightmare
Vodoo = i can afford only one mortage
gateway = sell at BB
americomp = who is this?

eMachines is still selling an Arima model that has the hinge problem. Even the Voodoo and Gateway users who have the chassis have complained. Hinge problem is related to Arima, not eMachines. And besides, i think they have taken care of it already.
