Odd problem with 9100 and power saving mode. Please help

Thread Starter
So I have my laptop on maximum performance setting since it is always plugged in. Everytime I shut my laptop down and reboot, the "turn off monitor, turn off harddisks, system standby" settings, ALWAYS reset to default and turn back on.

I don't want these ever turning back to default, I always want them off, yet everytime i shutdown or reboot they revert. Why are the settings not sticking?

There are maybe a few causes for this.

1. You are doing this through windows (right click propeties, screen saver, power), and you have Dell's QuickSet installed (would be installed on a default 9100/xps), which includes a power management system that is better then windows (IMHP) along with other laptop options. Try changing the settings in quickset if you have it installed, it should be located in the taskbar, and a double click on the icon will bring up the power management options. Alternitivly, you can uninstall quickset via the add remove programs.

2. You are using windows and don't have quickset, and its resetting. Try to create a custom setting and use that instead of modifying an extisting setting.

3. You are using QuickSet and it resets. Try to create a custom setting and use that instead of modifying an extisting setting.

4. You have speedstepXP installed, which may be overiding your systems power management. Open speedstep and close it, or modify the settings to your liking.

Thats all i can think of. They are ordered in most likly to least likely... probably, you are probably number 1.
