4750-c lcd backlight dead!

Ok so I have an RMA approved for this system already but anyhow what's the deal?! I really do not wish to send in this system until after christmas (due to some upcoming christmas parties) and the system *was* somewhat working alright... until today. Sometime between 9am and 11am, my laptop's backlight quit working completely. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary but did notice that my ribbon cable to the lcd is somewhat more noticeable. Is this a dead machine and have to revert to using a system incapable of playing HL2 and Tribes: Vengeance? Everything was going so well too...

Son of a b**** murphy's law.

Any quick fixes that won't violate my warrentee? I really don't want to have to ship this back until December 29th! (due to concerns whether or not it will be sent back home or to my dorm room)

The RMA was approved due to some a large cluster of dead pixels, lcd burnouts in the middle of the screen, and some minor case damage that happened during shipping.... but sheesh. Completely dead lcd backlight now?

Ive been searching google and stuff noticed there are plenty of other people who have this problem who relate it to the lcd cable getting loose or something.... but I know this will violate my warrentee wouldn't it if I attempted to open it up? Bah! I really want this machine to keep going until december!

Same problem here! My 4750-v screen went dead on me without any apparent reason. I can faintly see an image of the os while booting up, and the second vga output is working. I already applied for an RMA. I'm so bummed out coz now I will have to miss the laptop for at least a month probably and I've already been having major problems with the wireless card. I really regret having chosen a Sager...

I have had mine for just over a year, and my backlight has also gone out.

Check the microswitch

I'm sure you've already tried this, but see that little switch to the top right of your Power button? Make sure nothing is holding that down... try blowing some compressed air in there, or try pushing it with a bent paperclip (or finger if your hand is small enough). When that switch is pressed in, your backlight turns off. Chances are that isn't your problem and you will need to RMA it, but hey, it's worth a try.
