Major runaround trying to swap out WUXGA 9200

What a total runaround. Tech support after an hour sends me to customer service. Who after another hour says they can't do a swap for a different type of computer even if it's a lesser machine. So they send me back to technical support . The tech support guy sends me BACK to customer service after another hour, who refuses to help.

So now I call for the return department. Carla refuses to help, but after some more gentle urging, decides to do an "unequal swap" but the $125 in screen variance is lost. She won't do anything about that .

So then after four hours of waiting for the order to show up, she exchanged the WRONG LAPTOP - the second one I bought that's sitting in a box . So then I call back and am told that there's nothing that can be done until tomorrow but the fellow is able to cancel my laptop. He gives me the phone number of a woman who is a "case manager."

As of 1 pm I received no phone call so I tried dialing back into the returns department. Here goes another hour

Fortunately after all this crap, the lady I spoke with today did everything, swap out computers, explain how the warranty and rebates transferred and not to worry, and sends me a $150 coupon in email.

I really hate dealing with Dell and cannot recommend them to anyone. I just knew it was going to be like this for me, while Inu_Yasha has no trouble at all!

WHAT?! You have no idea how much trouble I had to go through!!! I was supposed to get a discount on my laptop and I eneded up calling dell for 3 weeks straight until I finally got a nice enough rep to give me my discount. I personally would not reccommend dell to anyone after having such an incident. I figured out one thing though, if you talk nicely to them and tell them what you want but be firm about it, you can usually get what you want. I also have spoken with many cs agents about my issues and have multiple case numbers to prove that I am having problems so it also helps me in that aspect.

If you're talking about my "luck" with tech support, I'm a tech support agent on desktops so when I talk to other ts, I can prove what i'm talking about. Basically, I just tell them what is wrong and what i want to get done in order to make me happy.

I'm ultra suprised that you were able to get a screen exchange; I wasn't able to get one and I ended up canceling my original order. I then spoke to a manager who "expidited" my order and that's the main reason why I bought my dell.

Leafs, I'll tell you now, the WUXGA is all a matter of prefrence! My friend ordered a I9200 the same time I did and got the WUXGA screen and hated it! He ended up returning it and getting a WXGA+ like mine. I had a replacement laptop sent in bc my screen has a line of dead pixels, and it had the "sparkle" effect and I ended up returning the replacement because I couldn't stand it for more then an hour. That's just me though so its just up to you. I'd honestly say go with the WXGA+ if you want to be safe and have a really readable text size.

is the text size huge? i was looking forward to the space of the wuxga

what size of normal crt monitor do you have? i can show you the difference between the two. WUXGA is like having a 17" with 1600X1200 resolution and WXGA+ is like having it with 1024X768. Honestly, to me the WUXGA is not worth going blind over. There is a lot of space on the WUXGA though I will admit, I loved having two words open for typing and editing, but the text was so small I needed my glasses to read it. Text size on the WXGA+ is actually pretty small compared to the resoultions I'm used to running on my desktop.

The 17" WXGA+ LCD (1440x900) has the same pixels per inch (100) as the Dell 20" LCD 2001FP (1600x1200) so it's pretty crisp to me and is on par to my Desktop LCD. Personally, I think there should be a WSXGA+ option - which would be the perfect sweet spot for me in terms of real-estate and crispness without the squint.

My ordeal continues. I have not received my coupon code, for which I left a message for the rep last week (who did not call me back.) Also my new system says that I have no warranty, that I don't get one when I look it up online (!!!)

I swear, if Dell doesn't give me high bloodpressure over all these phone calls and runaround, I will live forever
