How portable are 15 inch + laptops?

I like the look of the large screen when typing, and playing. But it just looks to large to carry around all day at university. I cant seem to picture it fitting well into my backpack. I like the ASUS 6000 series, but the 15.4 inch screen makes me unsure because of its dimensions.

Does anyone own a 15+inch screen laptop and can comment about its portability?

Size is not the issue, it really is determined by weight and how comfortable you are toteing said weight around.

I mean 8 pnds is a wee bit uncomfortable, but then again the most lugging around I do is from the table to the couch or to the car and into work.
Then again I was okey with this for the options I wanted.

got a 15.4" acer 2012wlmi and it fits into my backpack. Dont know what u mean by portability, although not as comfortable as perhaps a smaller laptop, i like having the power and still not sacrifice too much mobility.

Mine isn't very portable, but that's what I get for wanting power!

I don't currenty own a laptop, but I was looking into the Uniwill 259IA3. This laptop is 6.6 lbs and 12.1"w by 10.2"d 0.9" ~ 1.4"h (sloped). To me that is a very portable and would easily fit in most backpacks, along with some books.

I have a CL56(15"@6.2lb 13x10.8x1.26) and I have to say that I take it everywhere without a problem. No need to carry the ac adapter because the battery last about 3.5 hours unless playing a game. I carry it around campus all day and it doesn't really bother me.

seems the general consensus is that 'light is right'. That is, weight should be my main consideration, not the screen size. I figured this was the case.

It seems around 6 pounds (2.7 kg) is the limit.

But I was also wondering about the size of my backpack as well......I can carry a much smaller backpack with smaller laptops.

Mine is 15.4", about 6.5 pounds (I think, never weighed it).

It slides right into bag, I pick up bag, I walk away... ergo- portable. Some people are pick about weight though. Me, I am a meathead, I like it heavy! Builds strong bones! or whatever...

EricT,

I am considering the ASUS myself. Do you see any issues with the laptop having carried it around in a backpack for some time? For example, screen dents, buttons coming loose, scratches on the casing (and dents), etc?

just throw the lappy in a sleeve and walla, protected pretty well. My asus weighs less than most of my books. A good hardcover textbook weighs more than my lappy for sure. I'll let you know how my shinza fits on friday when it should arrive.

(There's a 20% off coupon on shinza right now dec 22-23 only) too bad i ordered like 2 weeks ago
