Yeah, I think I will wait, as you suggest. Unforturnately, I already got to the point of re-formatting and reinstalling, which in fact did nothing. It still crashes/blue screens and/or does nothing, and I lost everything on my hard drive (though I was painfully aware of what I was doing and am dealing w/ it...).
You are right about the dubious non-cutting edge upgrade, which still has me debating. On one hand, it will be somewhat cheaper, but on the other, $800 plus is still alot to pay for technology that is relatively old and will only get older. Then, again, there's always ebay...
I really love/loved my 5660 and got ALOT of intensive use out of it in the past 2yrs and 3months. But in retrospect I think I've always had vid card and overheating issues from the beginning of ownership. I recall that even playing UT2003 for more than a few hours would occasionally cause artifacts to appear or the game to freeze, requiring a hard reboot (actually unplugging power and battery, since no keys would respond). Since then, I've had similar issues w/ other games. I seems to me you are correct in suspecting the cooling setup of this line of computers as less then ideal. Smells like design flaws to me. But then again, it's tough to get performance like this on a laptop and not have overheat issues. Still, though, I'm sure there's room for improvement. And even w/ the newer computers (eg. 3790), it seems Clevo/Sager still is wrestling with this problem to some degree.
I will be interested to hear your ongoing thoughts and any progress on your "hospitalized" 5660.
