Which 9200 panel do you have?

Jan 19, 2005 update: Thanks to everybody who voiced their opinion! I think we have enough data at this point, so I won't be updating this post unless some new information becomes available.

Original post:
If people tell me which panel they have, and how they like it, I'll try to keep a tally in this thread. We've known since intro that about half love the WUXGA and half hate it. We also know there are at least two OEMs making the panel, and I've seen four different part numbers. So, here's my tally so far:

Part / Rez / OEM / Model (via Kanotix/Knoppix)
D8987= WUXGA replacement kit, usually a Y4014, but could be a W4554
F7116 WUXGA (UK) sometimes Samsung, sometimes LG!
W4554 WUXGA LG Philips LPL0000
W5409 WUXGA LG Philips LPL0000
W5412 WUXGA sometimes Samsung, sometimes LG!
Y4014 WUXGA Samsung SEC5557

T4976 WXGA+ LG Philips
W5410 WXGA+ LG Philips
W5411 WXGA+ Samsung SEC5857
X4746 WXGA+ Samsung

Very happy with this panel.

This is great that you're actually keeping a tally of the past month of discussions we've had here. I'm sure the effort will pay off, and I for one am thankful you've taken the initiative and the time to do it.

W5411 WXGA+ Samsung

I love mine; I hated the LG panel for the WXGA+ though because it is really dark and it has the "sparkle" effect of the WUXGA screen.

W4554 WUXGA LG Philips

Major 'sparkle' effect. Dell is shipping another WUXGA laptop to me today, shoudl arrive sometime just after Christmas. Will post findings on this new one.

Mine is wuxga part number - F7116 (im in the UK)

Screen is very bright, slight sparkle, and I mean slight.

Top laptop. Text is easy to read

Games look fantastic.

Reckon I must have a decent screen

Both mine are W5412.
I don't have an absolute standard...so it's hard to tell but..sparkle!!

Posted on the Dell Community Help Forums from another user:

I don't know which countries you guys got your Inspiron 9200 from. I got mine in Australia which is made in Malaysia. I don't find any problems with the screen at all. I can't detect any sparkle effects even on white backgrounds. The part number is W5412. I would recommend this system to anyone. It's a really nice machine with excellent performance. I hope this helps for those who don't know which LCD screen model is the non- sparkly one. Maybe, someone could help me find out which manufacturer makes the W5412 LCD screen.

Part number X4766, Samsung WXGA+ screen. Why the different part number from others? Anyway, it looks great to me.
I have had two W5412's. Both looked terrible compaired to my 15.4 WUXGA in my 9100. This is a very good way to find out which screen works. Thanks LeeU

W4554 - wretched. I tried to come to my own conclusion but the teeny-tiny-thin bubble wrap on this screen produces a holographic effect that makes me go crosseyed. It's going back!!!!! I asked about a different part number and the people I talked to got me major runaround. I've got a replacement WXGA+ in testing tonight.

W4554 - Sparkly. I've gotten used to it, but it's still irritating. Am asking for a replacement next week.

PS: great work on the part #s

Maybe we are in the special catagory
W4554 - Sparkly, but I've gotten used to it and appreciate the sharpness anyway. Text at 96 dpi a little tough to read, but 120 dpi is great.

i just got mine in and its a W5412.

sparkly indeed, esp. on white.
if i order a replacement is it possible to have them ship another one out (diff lcd model of course) while i use this one in between time?

x4766 - Samsung - Looks great, especially after playing with the display settings. Viewing angles could be better.

W4554 - must have been used on early ones cause I got mine on 11/28.
sparkly effect has grown on me. Not worth me sending it back because everything else works great on it plus it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Only thing that really makes it stick out at ya is a bright solid color backround. It kinda reminds me of a holographic effect and I dig it.
