Which 9200 panel do you have? - Page 6

HiYa & Greetings from New Zealand

I have ordered the WUXGA and then stumble across this site - bugger

Anyhows on my quote it says the W5412 is coming - I recall reading here that someone else from this part of the world got this but it was fine . . . but the majority of people say it sparkles.

So does anyone in our part of the world have the sparkle problem etc?

All you Ockers any troubles??

Fingers crossed that I have a 'good' one.

Cheers

The W5412 has been a mystery. It is supposed to be a Samsung panel, but some people are getting the W4554 LG in their systems when their packing slip indicates a W5412. If you actually get a Samsung, you should be in good shape.

I just booted mine up. Thus far I love it. Screen seems OK. I love this keyboard too. Anyway I got the W5412. I will use it a bit more and see how it is.

Thanks, dellbert, somms, and gsfeng for your comments.

I hope that nothing (especially the LCD) will be broken for the next three years. If something does not work and if possible I will request the part ship to me directly next time. However, will I be fully responsible if something happen during the replacement? In other word, will my warranty be void if it is serviced by a non certified technician i.e. myself? I am pretty confident on myself but got forbidden, shit happens. I just want to play it safe.

I was honestly afraid to check which panel I have in my 9200 coz I've not had any problems at with the rather minimal sparkles on my screen since getting it on the 17 Dec. Anyway been following this thread and I thought what the heck I'll go boot up the Knoppix CD (Dell site in Oz original system config page doesn't work ). On my picking slip it says the W5412 which I read could be either samsung or LG.

To my surprise I booted up the Linux CD and saw SEC5557 which is in fact the Y4014. So in fact some of us over here in Oz or NZ with W5412 may still be getting the good Y4014 panels in the end. So don't be discouraged with the "W5412" on ur picking slips folks

oo oo fingers crossed here

you like CanulaMan?
we seem to have the same system - what's the charcoal cover like?

Hopefully mine will arrive on Monday
yeah mtbrat I think we have identical systems (assume ur 9200 also has the SEC5557 display!).

I luv this screen ... that's why I was afraid to check whether my screen was in fact the best panel. The charcoal leather cover is ok.. it's not actually leather though.. feels rather thin actually. I would've preferred something of more substance (i.e. real leather may be?)

Another complaint is the lack of a microphone in the laptop. There is only a jack. BTW I also got the larger battery... it last for about 4.5 hours for me at home with Wifi on which is great.

One thing I did get though is the deluxe carry case, which I'm sorta regretting now... I'm still after a good quality leather case for my brilliant lappy.

sweet hopefully I will get the same and allay my fears

I know what you mean re bag - it won't fit in my crumpler pack so looking for something similar for the new monster

but at least I got the 'deluxe' bag for free - can't complain too much

I got Dell to send me a new screen and they sent me the y4014 refurb. This thing is 150% better than the org. LG. The sparkles didnt bother me too much so I figured why not it is free, boy am I glad.

CALL DELL NOW AND DEMAND THE Y4014!!!!

I just ordered mine. On the order status page I don't find any part numbers, well the ones I find are not discussed here. See below for my complete order, the second item from top is the WUXGA screen.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
T

See if you can call and get the service tag. Then you can plug it into the support site of the website. If not, a day or two after the laptop actually ships you can pull an invoice off the web site that may give you the part number but will definately give you the service tag at the bottom.

Thx, Heinrich.
I will check it out.

I got a LG T4976. Very spakle
Just received my 9200 WUXGA here in Toronto, Canada and did not notice any sparkle on the screen. Had been following this thread since the beginning and it had me a little worried.
My packing slip says I have W5412, but when booting the Knoppix CD, it reads it as a SEC5557
Made my day !! Love the laptop !! (My first)
T4976 is the WXGA+ screen and it is 20% the sparkle of the W4554 WUXGA which started this fiasco.

T4976 has as much sparkle as the highly rated Dell FPS2000 21" LCD that I've been gaming on for a year and half.

You notice it on light screens if you think about it.

The parse doesn't work for the LG display, but it'd be nice to know whether it works for the Samsung.

And I'm not surprised that Dell screws up the service tag information. They seem to screw up a lot of things.
Can someone tell me how to run the get-edid program? I tried to do as above in windows Dos prompt but it says unrecognised command. I really dont want to download the other 700MB program just to get the LCD model no.

Ahem. You see that little underlined thing in your quote above? That's a link. Click it.

Well I actually had downloaded the Zip file and extracted the contents to c:\ and ran the command as described in the root directory and it said unrecognised command. I had even tried different combinations of the command in case the spaces between the words were incorrect but still no luck.

Hmm, I just downloaded it again and verified that it still works. Make sure there's a program called cwsdpmi.exe in the same directory -- that's a DOS-extender it needs at runtime.

Also, make sure you're really typing get-edid. Your brain may misdirect your fingers to type get-edit (note the final "t" instead of "d"), which won't work
